Learner-centered approaches like DIY U are often caricatured as placing the learner in isolation. In fact the origins of the terms “university” and “college” both emphasize the importance of the group. This path will explore the important relationships that must be negotiated by the independent learner both face-to-face and virtually: with mentors, with peers, with the broader society, and with themselves.
