Here is a blog post: Of hackers and 'Streams' Sketches. My RSS category feed seems to be misbehaving. Jacob, I'll try to get that going someday!

  • manuel pinto   July 24, 2011, 8:52 p.m.

Hi there, unfortunately the weekend is over. Lot of fun working on my post. There we go:

wish you guys a good start on the following week! Best, manuel!

Ok, here is my blog post which refers to two posts neither of which are from or about the webinars (ooops!) but it does show how I've come up with my proposal for the lab and it's creation has been inspired by what we've been doing to far. I call it The Big Picture

I filmed my collague's rant about online news:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcTu6jWZ09Y

And my idea for how his problems might be addressed:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEM3YUTxX-c

It's all in the blog post. Video is still being processed so please give it a while.

Any feedback would be much appreciated and any developers who might want to help me build a prototype will be even more welcome!

  • Stijn Debrouwere   July 24, 2011, 8:14 p.m.

Hiya, my blogpost: A culture of coders. It's a rumination on John Resig's advice to make your app and developer culture as friendly as possible to newbie hackers, with some practical pointers on how we can actually do that.

Earlier in the week, I also posted Machine Learning Fairy Dust, prompted by looking over pretty much all the MoJo proposals and seeing that so many of them are reliant on machine learning or language and sentiment analysis. While it's fairly critical, I hope nobody takes it as a slight — it's just a general observation, not a jab at any specific project of any of you guys. And it's just my opinion anyway.

    Cheers,
    Stijn

Hiya, this week I've mostly been thinking about users, re-rethinking my project and being very pleasantly distracted by Chis Heilmann's links :).

Here is my post: Week 2: Mind The User Gap. 500 bananas exactly :D.

  • Nicole Cifani   July 24, 2011, 6:20 p.m.

    Hey everyone,

Here's my post for week 2.

The RSS feed can be found at the following:

I'm quite excited about the idea and would love any feedback you might have the time to give. Feedback helped quite a bit with last weeks' assignment, and actually got me going in a totally new direction!

Hope you're having a lovely weekend (+ staying cool out there),

    Nicole

Here's my post for week 2: "Beyond the Surface"  http://bit.ly/rrR1GI

(unrelated with this week, I've also posted on how I sketched my idea http://bitly.com/oEBEMO )

  • Amy Zerba   July 24, 2011, 11:55 a.m.

This week I channeled my inner young person to develop the start of a news tool. I hope that you find it creative, or at the very least entertaining. I've been enjoying reading all the great ideas and reflections posted here. What an inspiring group.

  • Bello David   July 24, 2011, 11:26 a.m.
  • John Tynan   July 24, 2011, 9:37 a.m.

Here is my Week 2 blog post.  It comes in well over 500 words, but it's exactly as I meant it to be.. a JQuery-docs inspired tutorial coupled with an attempt to begin displelling Heilmann's "pixie dust" and moving towards an understanding of popcorn.js:

    Towards an understanding of popcorn.js

Graders: please feel free to read the first 500 words and decide for yourself if this captures the spirit of this intent.

Developers: please feel free to comment and respond to my questions at the very end.

  • Juan Gonzalez   July 24, 2011, 1:43 a.m.

In a new medium, I finally cross the line from "strategy" to "visual design" and start to consider the technical implications of building this idea using the various technologies we heard about during the week.   I spent a few hours building an actual demo, but it was very much worth it!

Great idea to do a video Juan. You may have heard of this, but check out Jing as a free video screen-capture software. http://www.techsmith.com/download/jing/

    The more you know. ;)

I don't really feel I hit the mark with this week's assignment: no real difference in mindset when it comes to open-web, open standards and a journalist

I have been sitting on this since Wednesday night. It does me no good to let it linger over the weekend and think about making it better when I could be working on my final project or learning.

May the gurus of grades be kind.

Now on to careful editing of 256 characters. Have a good weekend all.

    Chris K.

UPDATE - Obviously the link above is my assignment for the week as it relates to my thoughts about the lecture, but I did quite a bit of sketching and thinking over the weekend about my final project: nwsmkr - Visualizing the connections between the people the news is about.
