This course will become read-only in the near future. Tell us at community.p2pu.org if that is a problem.

Form your team + identify your project

Each participating school needs a teacher to coordinate the project and a group of students to do the actual work!

Then you need to brainstorm and identify a project that you want to fund. It can be anything you want. For example, you might set up a group to make a community garden. Or perhaps you have a school arts project that needs funding. Whatever you want to do is great!

Post a comment here that tells who is on your team and what your project is.

Within the first week we hope you brainstorm and provide a creative yet defining project that will change the face of your community.  This could be school, neighborhood, or even a more distant community!

If you need examples do not be afraid to ask one of our listed participants for ideas or help in coming up with ideas!  :)

Hi, our team is integrated by Inaki and Alejandro . During this project we will look forward to get a grant to support Ayudame Que Yo Tambien Soy Mexicano. This foundation works to build houses around Mexico for the less fortunate families on Mexico. Each house built by this foundation costs between 40,000 and 50,000 pesos (3150 USD) depending on the model. Our goal for this grant writing is to raise the amount of money needed to build as many houses as possible. Let us remember that the people who build the house are all voluntaries who don’t get paid. Help us give a shelter for a needed family.

Wow! There are a lot of good ideas here!

As you all move forward, here are some things you might think about:

    • Is your grant proposal specific? What specifically are you going to accomplish? How much money do you need to get to do that?
    • If you are asking for a grant to give to another charitable organization, what is your group adding? Why wouldn't funders just donate to the charity directly? (Note: I think that partnering with other organizations is great, but you need to add some value in your own participation.)
    • What will the members of your group do personally to support your project? (Those personal stories will help "sell" your idea.)

I'll look forward to reading the next steps on all of these great projects. Let me know if I can help with anything.

We have gone from helping animal and helping the elderly, but now we know exactly what were gonna do. We chose a group from ASF called "rosa de la torre", this group helps children with mental disabilities who come frome a low income family and who have a hard time with these disabilities. We are gonna make a grant to obtain resources to help this group have more tools to be able to help these kids.

Thank you, Jose Alonso, Nicolas Zebadua and Inigo Rodriguez

A long time ago there was a kind of pump, promoted in Africa, that did not require electricity, and it was a HUGE and successful project.  Might be a possible connection, but this idea is a GREAT one.

We are Maria, Jessica and Cecilia and we plan to build an exhibition center in which young artists that are unable to afford a space to exhibit their artwork can get profit from it to increase their quality of life. With this in mind, our plan is to ask foundation MAPFRE and Museo de Arte Popular to aid us in the fundation of this exhibit center and the recruitment of young artists interested. Within this exhibition center, artist will expose their work to the public in an attempt to sell it and be recognized.

    Hi all!

This particular group wants to help raise funds for Child's Play. A non profit organization that raises money to give games to sick children in hospitals, to distract them and raise their spirits even when they are in a hospital. We strongly believe in Child's Play, because as a child we all had fun playing video games, as apart of their developement and would love to know that kids who are hospitalized can still have fun, even though some of them might have a chronic and fatal condition.

I like this idea. It seems valuable and also attainable.

Will you visit the children in hospitals yourselves? That would be a nice way to add value and to get more involved.

I'll look forward to hearing more.

Hi! Our team consits of Valeria, Victoria and Ane; we are really intrested in helping to promote education around Mexico, and have found a great community that is in serious need of economical help to keep their local school going. This community is called" comunidad Vainilla" and it is located in the Coast of Oaxaca. Our goal is to get them a Laptop, one of our team memebers have actually visited this community and their main need is this piece of tecnology. With a laptop the kids could explore and be exposed to new information, cultures and ways of thinking. Expanding their knowlege and horizons. Considering the needs that a computer requiers , and after evaluating them we might as well consider helping them with non electronic materials such as books , penciles and other school supply. Our main goal is to improve their learning enviorment.

    Enthusiastic,

    Valeria, Victoria and Ane.

Our team is integrated by Andrea Alvarez, Joseph Elenz and Pily Elizaga. This project consists of raising money throught  a grant to supply and support our local gamma club. Gamma Club offers classes to poor kids that live around the area. This lessons include art, Physical education, English, Computer, French and music classes. The club needs Art supplies like brushes paints and basic paper, phisycal education needs sports equitments like soccer balls etc. In the other hand, Music needs music paper and intstruments. The whole Gamma Club needs more people involved and more classes because right now many unfortinate children are on the waiting list trying to get in. If we show that we can handel it and with more supplies we will make many more children happy and give them chances for a better future.

I'll look forward to hearing more as you move ahead.

  • Ivan-4b   March 6, 2013, 3:25 p.m.

In my team we have several ideas for this grant. One of them is to fund the local school organization Hogar Dulce Hogar so that they can have an easier time helping the kids. Another idea is to help one of the local comunites close to the school that have low income and resources and provide them with aid so that they can improve their lifestyle and their future. Our third idea is to fund one of the NGOs in Pakistan such as the worldbank to improve the education since they are struggling with a number of problems that does not let them recieve a good education. We are prefering the idea to help Hogar Dulce Hogar since we can help more directly. Then we would prefer to go for the local communitty and then help the NGOs in Pakistan. PotatOS

Hi! We are Claudia and Lorena and we want to obtain money to help a public school near the American School Foundation in constituyentes. We're still doing some research about the school to see what their major necessities are, right now we are planning on obtaining money to give them better desks, books, and computers so that they can have a better education and learn more which will help them and encourage them to go to university and pursue their dreams with a career.

I like the idea of this because it is local and you could really get involved. Have you talked to this school to see what htey think would be most useful? That is a good way to get them bought in as well.

I will look forward to seeing more about your plans.

  • Ms.Dixie   March 6, 2013, 3:04 p.m.

My team will consist of me, Ms. Dixie, with some help from our studious Mr. Brake. I will be working to obtain grant money to help fund a laptop purchasing program for Cheery Children Education Centre (www.cheerycentre.org) which is located in Kenya. The school provides a solid educational background for at-risk children and recently they have entered into a partnership with Next Generation Global Education (www.k12nextgeneration.org) to implement a e-learning program. However, the e-learning program is floundering due to a lack of available technology, namely laptops. This is where I come in. I will work to find a grant for the school that will allow them to purchase the laptops needed to successfully move forward with their e-learning program and their partnership with Next Generation Global Education.
