This course will become read-only in the near future. Tell us at community.p2pu.org if that is a problem.

Introduction to the Group [April 16, 2012, 7:20 a.m.]

Introduction to the group and each other

Communication

  • As Sean suggested, let's use this platform as much as possible in order to "eat our own dogfood"

Schedule

  • Feedback: Is giving a week to each of the tasks except for pairing good at one week? If you get ahead of others, that's okay too.
  • This group will officially last about a month, but help is still available via the p2pu-dev IRC channel and p2pu-dev mailing list.

Definition of Open Source

Definition of Lernanta

Lernanta is the new platform for P2PU. We are building on the codebase from Batucada, a rewrite of drumbeat.org by Mozilla. It uses Python, Django, Javascript, HTML, and CSS.

Meet/Greet

Please see the sign-up task to see our introductions. If you don't have one there because you were accepted before that feature, please post a little about yourself and what you hope to achieve with this group. We can use that to pair up later. Also, I'll probably be using that to suggest bugs for you to fix :)

Writing Task:

Please post as a comment.

What operating systems and experiences you have, if you haven't already listed it in your introductory message on the sign-up task.

How do you want to contribute to Lernanta? Contribute to the code? Run your own instance? Help with translation?

Also, how do you define open source? If you have good links, that's great. If you have experience, please share it. What are its strengths and weaknesses? Especially from the viewpoint of someone new?
