I am a qualified teacher (of English, of Italian as L2/FL, and a teacher for handicapped students) in Italy. Actually I am doing a research doctorate and I will complete my studies in December 2013 researching in Modern Literatures and Philological - Linguistic Studies with a thesis on Virtual Worlds and Social Networks for Language Teaching (prosody approach through Process Drama). I have been teaching in public schools, at all levels, for over eleven years. Practical and theoretical work that I have completed throughout my post-degree courses, masters and teacher training, has had a strong emphasis on real education issues and how to enhance productive learning experiences for adult students as well. I taught at the University of Palermo as a contract Professor of Computer Assisted Language Learning, designing and teaching online language activities in 3D virtual worlds, particularly in Second Life (I also designed two pilot courses of Italian for the foreign institutions involved in that project). In addition to my teaching qualification I have completed a certificate in Teaching Languages with Technology (validated by Trinity College London), an international post-degree course in Teaching and Learning with MUVEs (MUVEnation), a Master in Advanced designing of Italian FL and a culture syllabus (University of Venice Ca’ Foscari) and some employment experience in the media and communications industry. My work with online activities motivated me to gain an education qualification so that I could work more directly with students in a teaching role and make a positive difference in their lives, using social technologies to promote motivation and inclusion of students with different skills and to improve oral production through emotional engagement. I have participated in a range of education-related experiences in government schools over many years. These experiences have enabled me to develop my skills in planning and implementing meaningful learning experiences for learners within the context of Italian curriculum guidelines. From my practical placements, full-time work and voluntary work I have gained a great appreciation of the importance of the role of teachers at all levels of education. I am a self-motivated and enthusiastic person with a strong passion to develop my career in secondary and adult education in a multicultural environment.
