I am a research scientist by profession and currently serving visiting positions at the University of Iowa and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. My research expertise is in signal processing, which is essentially applied mathematics and statistics applied to a broad spectrum of practical science and engineering applications. I am particularly interested in undersea acoustic communications, petroleum fingerprinting, energy monitoring and other environmental applications. I got my Phd (2006) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Electrical Engineering. Beyond my academic career, I have also worked in industry (Microsoft, Philips Semiconductors, and an Indian startup) serving in various roles from software developer to program manager. I also have strong background in education and have taught college courses at different levels at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. I am a people-oriented person and love participating in outreach programs particularly those connected to education of minorities.
