The web is an amazing place to continue learning, but doing it on our own can be a difficult task. How can we make plans, achieve goals, and hold ourselves accountable without traditional courses or grades?
Build strong foundations for self-directed learning in this challenge based on Anya Kamenetz's Edupunks' Guide to a DIY Credential.
A DIY education is no small undertaking. Your plan deserves a space to be mapped out and shared with others.

Create a space on the web to work in and share it. Start a blog like Pippa or add a page to your website like Devin. You can Hack P2PU like Wendy to map a plan others can copy and and customize. Or you can build a whole site around your plan like Weezie.

Hi, I think the best way for me to do this is by recording voice "memos". I will also put most of my stuff up on a folder on google docs. Regarding the voice thing, does anyone know of a good audioblog site (if such exists)?
Currently, between myself and some friends/colleagues/acquaintances; we host a private server that allows us to develop and tune our code, design, project ideas, and otherwise. I've posted a more precise plan there and encouraged the rest to do so, add thoughts, and share.

I decided to build a website around my plan.
First of all, I thought it would be fun, second, I have the skills, and thirdly, Wordpress makes it really easy to achieve - I’d certainly recommend giving it a go.

The name comes from Milton - it took me ages to come up with a name that was meaningful and pretentious in equal measure.
That is some nice work, I like how you have laid everything out, and I like the tab for the embedded learning mindmap, I also have my Open Learning curriculum mindmap that I created with http://mind42.com/ but I like your idea of having a section of the site devoted to it since it is such a useful tool for organization!

Yea, this is my first time doing both. Thanks for the offer and I will gladly take you up on it! I'm looking forward to working my way through the School of Webcraft. Would you be amendable to me refering to you as my mentor? I'm working on the Build a Personal Learning Plan and need a mentor to contiune, further I was completely impressed with your Mind42 page, and am already trying to figure out how best to copy and paste it as my learning plan! As such, your already kinda doing the job.

I completely agree. Corbin it seems like you'd have a lot to share in this area and even sharing your exploration (like I did...I'm definitely not an expert on badges) would help people a great deal in figuring out the first steps in their journey. :)
Thanks for the suggestions Alison & Leah. I will definitely look into creating a challange after I have a better idea of what I'm doing. I'm still in the process of learning and redefining right now. I just wrote my second Open Learning Curriculum: Week 2 blog post. I also just discovered that this week, starting tomorrow, is Open Education Week! This is sponsored by the OpenCourseWare Consortium and there are all sorts of free webinars scheduled this week!
Well, I've been concentrating on some self-study topics on my blog leahmacvie.com for a few years now. However, I want to flip that site into more of a 'service' site when I post topics that can help others. I thought I would try 'hacking' P2PU to set up private study groups that can help me keep track of my learning. In the end I would publish some sort of PDF that can go on my blog to help others, possibly linked to the P2PU group.

Note: There no longer is an 'other' option when creating a group. Now we only have the option of doing a 'study group', 'course', or 'challenge'. I selected challenge and followed the directions accordingly to plug in 'personal learning plan'.

I created a website where I have a blog and pages for my learning syllabus and portfolio. (I used weebly.com, they do free hosting, but I paid for a silly domain name. Wordpress is a better option because it's free & open source. There are lots of free web-making tool out there for those of us who aren't so savvy.) I like this because I have put a lot of work into this learning plan. I know there are others out there who want to learn this too. Wouldn't it be cool if they found this, cloned it (you can clone/copy any course or challenge on P2PU and customize it), modified it to their needs and started learning with it? Also, it allows me to make tasks, something I haven't been able to build into my little site.
