Complete all 4 tasks to get connected and start virtual conversations about badges.
 
  1. On Twitter:

    1. Join Twitter and join the #openbadges and #p2puopenbadges101 hashtag discussions or create a hashtag to discuss the topic.
    2. Ask questions and get people discussing your topic.
    3. Follow @openbadges on Twitter.
    4. Build up your Social Media Badges Personal Learning Network.
    5. For a place to start, check out my list on Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/leahmacvie/badges
  2. Join Facebook and join a group or create a group about badges to discuss badges. Like the Mozilla Open Badges page.
  3. Join the Open Badges Google Group here: https://groups.google.com/group/openbadges. Subscribe to the posts in order to receive updates via e-mail. Introduce yourself in a post to the group, add your experience, and offer to help. Reply to at least 2 other posts.
  4. Join the weekly conference call on badges: https://openbadges.etherpad.mozilla.org/openbadges-community-2

    I think Open Badges have huge potential in my institution, particularly in recognising digital fluency, employability skills and awareness of inclusivity and diversity. I would like to see more concrete evidence of employers recognising the value of badges as I think that could be a big driver for adoption.

    I am now following @open badges and @p2puopenbadges on Twitter.  I don't use Twitter much but have posted some of the Badge collections I have earned since September on my Twitter feed.  And I have directed educators whom I have introduced to open badges to view my shared badges on Twitter.

    Yesterday I managed to share my Badge Collections on LinkedIn.  You can see them by accessinhg my full profile here:  http://www.linkedin.com/in/nfriday

    I have also joined the Google Open Badges Group.  Again a new learning edge for me because I don't use Google Groups much.

    Little steps along the way - but moving forward nevertheless!

    I'm a big fan of twitter, use it all the time to gather/share info.  I've posted a query to the twitter-verse for some examples of how badge metadata is being used to create learning dashboards for analysis.  Will check back here to report results.

    With that said, I'm happy to follow on Google+ and Facebook. I'm a private drum/piano teacher and finding badges in my career area is fruitless. I will begin my own badge issuance post haste!

    I can see how where I work we can develop a framework for awarding badges that relate to significant activities and have intrinsic value, and that is what I plan to do.

    In discusssing with others the first question they are asking is how anyone can be confident a badge has any merit at all. What is to stop an organisation or indeed individual just making good badges which in truth represent  little?

    My interest, is in any discussions of people looking into or have already implemented badges at the community college level.  I'm looking at using it for student as well as for faculty/staff.

    I participated in an open phone call today -- very organized and very interesting.  They are exactly one hour.  I wish the prompt was listed at the top of the screen after I start writing my comment.  I can't remember what I'm supposed to be doing now...haha.

Given that I will not sign up for a Twitter account nor will I follow a Twitter account, am I disqualified from completing 101 What are Open Badges?

    Should you ever decide to use Twitter (I started late last week), I recommend Tweet Deck.  It's very organized.  I only follow people posting information relevant to my work interests (open badges, instructional design).

    Me neither. I like what technology can provide, but I don't necessarily want it to consume every moment or be the core of every interaction. Do you think we have to do all of these things to get credit? The way the task it worded, it should as heck seems so. :(

    I am new to this whole concept and the various resources out there is quite overwhelming.  I am not much of a Twitter fan, so I decided not to pursue that approach.  However, the other options have provided a good deal of information.

    I am working on updating this challenge this week. Yes, the open badges group does still chat weekly. At the top of the link you pasted is the current etherpad...or the etherpad that will tell you the current meeting etherpad. I agree it's confusing, and I have to start out on this link every week to get to the actual etherpad. I will bring it up at the next meeting..

    I want to join the community call today, but it's at 10am my time, when I have class. :) I'm guessing that the calls are usually the same time each week? I guess I'll have to look into the future to see if there are any cancelled classes on a Wednesday. I would love to get on the call every week as I am working on my project, if I could. We'll see what I can do.
