- Submission Assistance: We will have a Google Hangout available from Noon – 5pm PST available for submission assistance on April, 25th 2014.
- Business Plan: You can convert your word document to PDF in a number of ways.
Option 1: If you have Microsoft Word, simply go to "File", select "Save As..." and choose "PDF" under Format. Be sure to save it to a place where you will find it easily, such as your desktop.
Option 2: Copy your document into a Google Doc and convert it there. To do that, you need to log in to your gmail account, then click on "Drive" at the top. Then on the top left, click "Create" and choose "Document" from the drop down menu. Copy your business plan into the document. Then click on "File" on the top left, and choose to download it as a PDF document.
- Source code: To obtain your app’s Source Code, log in to App Inventor. Go to "My Projects". Check the box of the project that consists of your final app prototype. Click on "More Actions" button. Choose "Download Source" from the menu and save it to your computer. Then click on the empty box underneath to browse through your computer and upload the .zip file, without changing the name of the .zip file.
- Video Pitch and Demo: Create a YouTube account if you do not already have one. Then click on the upload button on the top right and upload your video. Make sure to set it to "public" under privacy settings and save the changes. Copy the link that is found under your video name and paste into the word document.
- Converting your PowerPoint into Slideshare: Go to slideshare.net. Create a free account on slideshare. Check the email you used to register, and follow instructions sent to your email to confirm the account. Log in to your account and click the upload button. Browse through your computer, and choose the presentation you want to upload. Once your file is uploaded, click on it to view, and copy the url. Paste the url into the word document.
- Converting your PowerPoint into Prezi: Go to prezi.com. Create a free account on Prezi. Select ‘PowerPoint’ from the top-center menu when in Edit mode. Click on "Select File..." and choose the PPT or PPTx file you want to import. Drag your slides from the sidebar to the canvas, or click Insert all. You can also choose to add a path between them. Paste the url into the word document.
- Do not assume that all judges will upload your .zip file and demo your app; please showcase your app in the video.
If your team is chosen as the 1st place winner from your region, you will be invited to attend World Pitch in the SF Bay Area (USA), where you will pitch to judges for a chance to win $10,000 in funding for your app.
Hi Jenna,
Our team can also not recall what time they registered under. We're the TechnovationPDX girls from Portland Public Schools. Jyothi thinks it may be GirlsLead, but we wanted to be sure!
Thanks!
Hi Jenna. I am with the Nightingale-Bamford School. Would you please check our team name, as well?
Thanks,
Dan
Hi Dan,
Looks like the girls didn't officially register a team name. They can fill out this simple form here.
https://docs.google.com/a/iridescentlearning.org/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFN3aUUwVm9lbTI1OGxmSjhLTE9PMGc6MQ#gid=0
Thanks!
Jenna
Now that I come to think of it, I don't know what our team registered as!!! They don't seem to know either. It could be LPS Oakland. There were two at the time. We are submitting under GITv. Ruth
Hi
Can we check our group name too please
I think we were MCHSAppGroup
We are now TechGirlsUK
Thanks
Theresa
This is Ruth with GiTV. We were wondering if we could do a trial upload of everythng tonight to make sure that we know the process and that we have something submitted in case of issues tomorrow. Can we then upload the final drafts of everything tomorrow? Thanks.
There is Server Error 500 on AppInventor. Can someone make sure its up and running as Block Editor and Saving won't work.
Our girls are putting some final touches before submission.
Thanks,
Mita
Hi Mita,
I'm trying to copy app project from AI ,but I keep recieving "Server error: could not copy project. Please try again later!"
I can't also download the apps!
Good luck!
Nada
Hi all, two questions:
- Is the oral presentation capped at 4 minutes?
-Should our video pitch include our oral presentation? Right now we have skits for our videos. They are more like commercials.
Hi Halifax!
The video pitch is a max of 4-minutes. If it's longer, the judges will just watch the first 4 minutes. The video is the most important part of your deliverables. Make this stand alone on its own as much as you can (make sure it addresses as much of the rubric as possible). The video can be any format you choose -- live pitch, commercial, skit, app demo, hybrid, etc.
In addition to the video, you may also share a few slides to support your pitch (maybe a picture of 1-2 screens, a graph that supports your business plan, etc.). The biggest reason we give teams an option to have slides is because we don't want the quality of the video to influence judging. So for example, if one of the slides appears in the video pitch but it reads a little fuzzy, the judge can go see it on your slide share or Prezi. Make sense? Your business plan can be more comprehensive and go into depth in items that you only touch upon in your pitch or slides. Finally, the source code will allow judges to download and view your app if they would like.
I hope this helps. Let me know.
Thanks,
Angelica
Thanks Angelica, this clears everything up!

Congratulations, Laura!
Hi Kelly,
Thanks for the questions. Please upload the PowerPoint using Slideshare or Prezi and the video using either Youtube or Vimeo and paste links into the word doc. The reason for this is to keep each submission consistent for our judges.
I have Amsaapp01, Amsaapp02, Amsaapp03, Amsaapp04, and Amsaapp05 registered. Please let me know the new names and I will adjust them in our records.
Thank you,
Jenna
Hi Maui Girls,
Can you help me understand which form you are referring to? If you e-mail me directly Jenna@IridescentLearning.org I'd be happy to give you my direct number.
Thanks,
Jenna

Greeting Technovation Teams!
We are putting together some videos to help promote Technovation and we need your help!
I know everyone is busy right now so this is purely optional, but the extra effort can really help our community.
We would love to hear from you and learn about your team. Over the next few days while you are working take some video and upload them to YouTube (and share with us). We will compile the videos and share with the world, so this is your chance to brag a little : )
Some ideas:
-Tell us in 3 words what Technobation means to you
-Take video of you and your team working on your app
-Show us your school or city or heck where you have been working on your app
-Tell us a little about yourself
-Share funny outtakes of your pitch video
- Interview each other (don’t forget your mentor!)
We would also love to see some pictures. Please share those as well : )
Here are some of the albums I have been putting together for this year. Check them out and get inspired!

I am so excited for everyone and I can’t wait to hear about your amazing ideas.
Best,
Jenna
Does the app development and submission have to use App Inventor, can the app be written in native Java on a standard Develoment Environment such as Eclipse? OR can native Java mobil app development be combined with Aop inventor? Is App Inventor all drag and drop, or can native Java be used within the App Inventor software? Just checking the options as we ramp up on software development.
Thank you
Elaine
Haverhill, MA
Elaine,
Students can use any language they like to create their app, we just suggest App Inentor because it is the most basic tool. I don't think it's possible currently to combine Java and App Inventor, but you might want to check the AI forum to be sure.
