Standards for Mathematical Practice

Take a moment to look over the Standards for Mathematical Practice, in particular MP1: Make Sense of Problems and Persevere in Solving Them and and MP3: Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. Read the full description for these standards.

Keep in mind that just like content standards, these standards describe desired student learning objectives; these are skills that students should master, not merely a description of what a classroom should look like.

Do you feel like your students are proficient in MP1 and MP3? What do you currently do to encourage development of these skills in your students? What could you change to further promote development of these skills? Refer back to your self-assessment as you consider this, and write your ideas in the box below.
