Performance / Benchmarking

Benchmark is the act of running software to assess the relative performance of a system. They are usually standard tests to compare other systems. Benchmarking is usually associated with assessing performance characteristics of computer hardware, for example, the floating point operation performance of a CPU or the performance of a GPU. There are situations when the technique is also applicable to software. Software benchmarks can be run against compilers or database management systems.
