Week 1: Welcome to the World of the UNISON ULR
This section of the online course supports your face-to-face meet-up with your tutor and fellow coursemates. It aims to give you the chance to:
- have a hands on experience of watching videos, visiting external resources, reading and downloading documents and using the quick quiz to check your knowledge
- learn more about taking part in the weekly community calls
Task:
Take a look at this short video about the great work that a UNISON ULR does in Scotland...
Please now read through Section 1 of the UnionLearn "Working for Learners" guidebook for ULRs first section of the Wales TUC's ULR toolkit, which can be found here. Remember that UnionLearn only works in England and that whilst we have different arrangements in Wales, the rights of a ULR are the same across all parts of the UK.
Now watch this lovely video made by our friends at the trade union Propect ...
Did you notice when the singer mentioned the role of the ULR being backed by a law?
Along with Workplace Reps and Health & Safety Reps, as a ULR your role is legally protected. You can find out about the legal rights you have as a union rep by reading the following resources:
- The rights of trade union reps on the Gov.uk website
- [The ACAS Code of Practice - Time off for trade union duties][4]
Conference Calls
Each week during this course you will be required to join a "conference call" meeting at a time and day agreed with your tutor and your coursemates at the Week 1 meet-up. The call should last an hour. It couldn't be easier to join:
Call 03334433443
Enter Room Number: 80582539 # Then PIN Number: 2980 #
You will then be asked to state your name and then press # again.
All the calls are recorded as evidence of your learning and are charged at the same rate as ringing a BT landline, so may be included free in your monthly package.
