Week 6: Communication and Promotion

This section of the course aims to give you the chance to:

  • To promote and publicise learning in your branch
  • To identify ways to promote learning
  • To practise developing your promotional skills
  • To raise awareness of the profile of branch membership and how to reach out to members

But making animated videos using tools like Powtoon and posting them online is just one way that you could promote learning in the workplace.


TASK 1:

Click on the link below and read the section on "Practical initiatives to promote learning" (Section 3) , from this draw up a list on ways that you could promote learning and your services as a ULR in the branch and workplace. (Activity 8 in your workbook)

Now, watch the video clips below about how learning can engage with members, increase members involvement and promote the union.





TASK 2

Indivdually, plan a short publicity campaign to promote a learning event that is being organised by your branch in 8 weeks' time.

Select one of the following around which to plan your promotional activity:

  • Maths and English/welsh lunchtime taster sessions
  • ICT training offered in partnership with your employer
  • Informal learning e.g. photography, poetry workshop, spanish, etc.
  • Setting up a lunchtime book group
  • Unison's Return to Learn and Women's Lives information session

Using the Marketing/Promotional Worksheet (activity 9) produce a campaign plan.


TASK 3

Produce a draft leaflet, poster or material for on-line media that promotes your chosen learning activity.
