Session 3: Content & Design for Prezi
Here's this week's presentation, complete with a soundtrack of "I got a right to sing the blues" by Billie Holiday, who would have celebrated her 100th birthday this month.
You can download "I got a right to sing the blues" and more out-of-copyright Billie Holiday tracks from the Internet Archive
Further Reading & Watching This week's presentation centred around a "blues" theme and was framed by a Creative Commons licensed artwork downloaded from Flickr.com. You can look deeper into CC licenses by going to www.creativecommons.org.
Also introduced during the session as an open-source DJ tool called Mixxx, which can be used to record your own unique mix if different audio files.
With these two things in mind, you might find this TEDx video by one of the founders of Creative Commons quite interesting.
It's a challenging idea - that creative life in the 21st century as a constant remix of existing materials that requires freedom and rights for creatives to function properly.
What do you think? Are people on the left or on the right of politics more likely to support Creative Commons?
Interestingly, in the UK, the UK civil service has pioneered the used of the Open Government License, which makes all of the code behind gov.uk websites available for free to the world. You can read about their governing design principle "Make things open, it makes things better" in this blog post
