Poland and its culture

In this activity you will:

  • identify the location of Poland

  • view a set of images, listen to short commentaries about them, and add your own

  • explore a topic of interest to learn more about Polish culture

  • choose and cook a Polish dish, or watch a Polish movie

  • demonstrate what you have learned

Expected time to complete: 1 hr


Task 1. Use Google Maps to identify Poland’s location.

  1. Go go Google Maps and look for Poland. Identify its location and neighbours.

  2. Post a comment below if you discovered anything new for you about the location of Poland.


Task 2. View images of Poland

  1. View this presentation on VoiceThread. It contains images of Poland with short commentaries.

  2. Did you discover anything new? Or maybe you visited some of those places. Do you have any questions about those places? Pause the slideshow and do a web search to find answers. Add comments on the images.


Task 3. Examine an area of interest.

Pick a topic area, e.g. food, movies, famous Polish people, history, culture. Explore the recommended sites and look for additional ones to dig deeper if you need.

movies - The Culture Trip, Martin Scorsese's guide, BFI's 10 great Polish films

famous people - famous Polish people

history - history at a glance, highlights of Polish history

culture - celebrations, imieniny, culture and arts

Pick a simple Polish recipe to make for dinner, or rent a Polish movie. Try Netflix, and YouTube for older movies.


Task 4. Assemble new facts in a digital artifact form.

  1. Think about what you have learned. List a few facts that stand out for you.

  2. Create a digital artifact to demonstrate how your knowledge about Poland has increased as a result of this activity. You can use Thinglink, VoiceThread, a forum post, a blog post, a podcast, a vodcast, etc. The format of the artifact is up to you.

  3. Share what you have created on the forum below. Feel free to contact me if you need any help.

  4. Study the work of others and post comments on their reflections.
