Step 1: Your Unique Idea to Change the World
Before you spend anymore time on your idea, make sure that no one is already doing it.
There are over 1,000,000 Non-Profits in the USA today - thousands start and end almost everyday and it's more competitive than ever to get funding.
So as you build out your idea - make sure it's UNIQUE & FUNDABLE.
I believe that all non-profits should be disruptive - that's the point of a good non-profit mission - to disrupt the status quo - you don't like how things are and you have a solution that will disrupt it.
But first, step 1: Competitive Landscape Analysis
Is your idea unique, or it there another org doing something similar that you can join or help so you are not re-inventing the wheel.
Task 1: Make a list of at least 5 Orgs that almost do what you do, but not quite, about 99% similar to your idea, in the region where you want to setup shop.
Task 2: Make a list of at least 5 Orgs that almost do what you do, but not quite, about 75% similar to your idea, in the region where you want to setup shop.
Now take a look at the list of Org, these are the Orgs that you have the best shot of getting your idea into action, you should pitch your idea to them, see what they think, get their advice. Do you know anyone that works there? Go on Linkedin, do you have any tangential connections to get a cup of coffee with someone there?
These groups may help you turn your idea into a program at their Org, they might be willing to Fiscally Sponsor you on the spot!
Now - if you get rejected by all these Orgs then you should keep taking this course.
TIP: Don't worry about people stealing your Unique Idea to Change the World. Because what happens if they steal it?
THE WORLD IS CHANGED FOR THE BETTER.
Trust me nobody gets rich starting Non-Profits. Don't treat your idea like it's the next killer app, or you're then next Tesla, there are no Patents in the non-profit world. Don't treat your idea like it's a state secret.
