In 2008 David was winner of both the Guardian Award for UK Teacher of the Year and Scottish Teacher of the Year. In the same year, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and made a National Teaching Fellow of the UK Teaching Awards. He has since become an Associate of Independent Thinking, visiting schools throughout the UK teaching staff about the imaginative uses of WEB2.0 technologies. He is a consultant with BBC Scotland Learning, a member of the Scottish Government’s CfE Excellence Group, and is working with Glasgow University on a project exploring varieties of literacy in 21st learning and teaching. David is a Judge for the UK Teaching Awards, the Scottish Education Awards, for the Institute of Ideas – Debating Mattes, and for Jamie Oliver’s Dream Teacher. He is a Visiting Fellow on the Masters in Teaching and Learning for Edgehill University, an Advanced Higher Marker for the Scottish Qualification Authority and a Visiting Tutor to students of the PGDE, Glasgow University. David is currently involved in an EU Lifelong Learning Programme looking at Digital Storytelling and the use of emerging technologies in the English Classroom. He has also just established a new company – LEARNwith... – delivering enhanced learning through digital innovation! He was recently made Deputy Chair of RSA Scotland.
