File Your First Bug [Nov. 25, 2011, 1:13 p.m.]

To make your blog discoverable to the Mozilla community at large, you'll want it to show up on Planet Mozilla, a "virtual firehose" which aggregates the voices of everyone in the community.

In order to do that, you'll need to file a bug. Bugs are simply "concrete tasks that need to get done" at Mozilla; other organizations might call them tickets or issues.

Head on over to bugzilla.mozilla.org, where all the bugs are managed, and create a new account for yourself. Then watch the 18-minute Bugzilla For Humans tutorial by Jonathan Nightingale, which is an excellent (and hilarious) introduction to the system.

Next, you'll want to create a bug under the product Websites and the component planet.mozilla.org. Provide the URL to your blog there and a description of yourself. Check out this bug for an example.

Once you've done that, you might want to try out Atul Varma's Bugzilla Dashboard, which gives you a simple overview of all the bugs you're involved with.
