Anyone can follow a study group on P2PU. Participating is the next level of engagement. The sign-up is a space where interested individuals can express their interest and background in the topic and commit to working with the rest of the participants. Please answer the following set(s) of questions if you want to become a participant or organizer.

  What made you interested in this topic?
  Lately, my research is stretching the edges of my abilities in probability and reasoning, especially with regard to probabilistic optimization. I am currently (as of 6/2011) preparing for my proposal. This is exactly what I need right now.
  
  What do you hope to achieve by participating?
  Beef up on probabilisty and formal reasoning and get to know CS comrades better.

  I am a graduate student doing PhD in UT Arlington . My research interests are data mining, machine learning , artificial intelligence and databases. I am also very interested in sharpening my math  and stat skills.

  I am very interested in learning math techniques that can be used in my research. I also recently took a grad course on solving NP complete problems using techniques like approximation and randomized algorithms. I have also wrote few lecture notes on the same. (available at http://crystal.uta.edu/~gdas/Courses/websitepages/spring2011AdvAlgos.html ). 

  I am planning to use this summer to learn more about randomized algorithms. I hope this P2PU course will be a great motivator :) My hope is that I will be able to use ideas from randomized algorithm (or general proof) techniques in my research.
