I am intrigued by the ways that technology may (or may not) be changing the way we see "writing" and how that translates into the compositional practices of our students. I hope to stretch a bit and reflect more on various views of writing.

I organized, developed, and presented an online writing symposium for language arts teachers in March & April of this year on how writing is changing due to 21st century applications, opportunities, and creativity. This course caught my attention as I'm developing ideas for another writing symposium during the 2012-2013 school year. Participating in this course will provide me with the opportunity to discuss ideas prior to incorporating them into my syllabus.

I agree that writing instruction needs to change to match the times. I hope to learn more about how to make the best shifts in instruction to help students become sophisiticated writers. I want to participate in a group before taking on organization responsibilities.

I am a classroom teacher (grade 1) and a graduate literacy adjunct faculty at two colleges in the area. I have a PhD in Curriculum & Teaching from Fordham University. Been an educator for the past 25 years. Also a mother of a HS & MS boy.
Location: Westchester, NY
Standard Set Answer:
I have been selected as a fellow at the Connecticut Writing Project at Fairfield University in the month of July. I am also a part of a 42 member international action research team for the year 2012-13, where we will be looking into increasing creativity in boys using digital tools and enhance literacy learning. I will use my class as a research site with my 1st graders. Hence I am drawn to this topic.
I hope to increase my knowledge-base by working with colleagues who share similar interests. This will only strengthen the knowledge-pool. I am also interested to conduct an action research on P2PU in the future.
I would love to help in the organization of a study group but honestly will love to work alongside someone who can guide me as this is new to me.

I'm mostly a middle school teacher of science and math. I occasionally write articles and blog posts that explain what I'm learning about my teaching practice.
Location:
Standard Set Answer:
I don't think a science and/or math teacher can know enough about how to teach students how to clearly communicate about what they're learning.
By participating, I want to get better at helping students unlock the thoughts inside their head so they can come out into the light and be seen by many.
I don't know what it means to help with the organization, but I could try.
