The Global Village Construction Set (GVCS) is a modular, DIY, low-cost, high-performance platform that allows for the easy fabrication of the 50 different Industrial Machines that it takes to build a small, sustainable civilization with modern comforts.
Anyone can follow a study group on P2PU. Participating is the next level of engagement. The sign-up is a space where interested individuals can express their interest and background in the topic and commit to working with the rest of the participants. Please answer the following set(s) of questions if you want to become a participant or organizer.
This set of signup questions is common to all study groups, courses, ... in P2PU. The answers to these questions will be public once you get accepted.

Standard Set Answer:My high level interest is to work for a sustainable, inclusive society based on freedom, autonomy, solidarity and unlimited knowledge. This "Free Knowledge Society" is based in sharing knowledge - which in digital form has shown its strength, as can be seen in the Free Software, Free Culture and commons movements. Now the larger challenge will be to apply these values and principles to physical goods. Commons based governance of collective resources is receiving growing respect. Free Hardware and manufacturing are particular movements within the physical realm, and Open Source Ecology is arguably the most ambitious and visionary within that area.
What I hope to achieve in this course is to a) mature my understanding of the concepts behind OSE; b) get to know the way the various GVCS projects are designed, in what stage they are, how local communities can get to implement them, c) what economical opportunities local communities have now and in later stages of development to get involved in a "distributive economy" by following OSE ideas and using GVCS machines; d) get to know and discuss with other likeminded in this area.
I'd be happy to contribute a) an overview article (case study) of OSE, b) help define the study programme, c) use the Free Technology Academy infrastructure and connect to its community on these concepts.
