Getting ready to run
This week is our orientation week. Your goal is to do the following:
1) Introduce yourself to the group. Tell us your name and why you signed up for this course.
2) Evaluate your shoes and (possibly) buy new running shoes.
As we start running more each week, you'll find that the shoes matter more and more. Running in shoes without good support is an easy way to get injured. Go visit your local running store with your current running shoes and ask them if they need to be replaced. If they do, buy new shoes (or start saving for them).
3) (Ladies Only) Buy a good sports bra.
4) Decide what three days you plan to run each week and make a note in your calendar.
5) Go on a 30 minute walk each "run day" this week.
6) Decide how you are going to time your runs. You have the option of using a watch or stopwatch or downloading an app for your smartphone. If you have an iPhone or Android, search your App Store for "C25K".
7) (Optional) Find a 5K race that you will run in two months and register.
