Find reliable web-resources [Oct. 30, 2011, 4:34 a.m.]

Finding the websites that meet your health information needs is a personal process. Some sites that I return to time and again include:

  • Wikipedia - Its reliance on user-generated content can detract from its authority. However, it can be a good starting point for exploration. Try searching from the box in the top right corner of the main page or browsing the Symptoms page.
  • Mayo Clinic - Their site contains a wide variety of health resources, including a Symptom Checker and Drug & Supplement info.
  • Google Scholar - A great place to verify the research background on any conditions or treatments that you want to know more about. Try starting at the Advanced Search page; check the box for Medicine, Pharmacology, and Veterinary Science under the Collections: Articles and patents category.
