Starting the course [Dec. 11, 2012, 6:03 p.m.]
This course will help guide you through the process of becoming a college student. The examples in the course use City College of San Francisco, but feel free to work through the course even if you're going to be going to a different school.
Please make sure you've signed up for the course under a pseudonym. A pseudonym is a fake name. This will help protect your privacy and safety. If a teacher is having you complete the course, let them know what fake name you used so that they can see your answers. Anything you post in this course is public, so if there's something that's really personal, don't post it here.
This course is divided into tasks. The task list will show you the areas of the course that you have completed and what you still have left to finish. You do not have to complete the tasks in order. The first task is what you're working on right now. Click "Post Comment" and post one question or concern that you have about this course.
Then find someone else's post that interests you and either post a reply or give them a badge.
There are two buttons below each post: "Reply" and "Give Badge." "Reply" lets you post a reply to what they posted. Everyone will see your reply, so be polite and respectful. "Give badge" lets you let someone know you liked their post. Don't worry about giving the wrong badge; the person will be excited they got a badge even if they aren't sure why you gave it.
The badges that are available to give to someone are:
"Wave" - Lets you say hi to someone even if you're not sure what to say.
"I like your idea" - Lets them know that you liked an idea they had
"I like your question" - Lets them know you like a question that they asked.
"Thank you" - Thanks them for helping you with something you were stuck on.
