I am currently following my wife around the world in her career as a diplomat. I am a stay-at-home-dad who programs primarily in python using the web framework web2py. Previously, I worked in public radio for nearly a decade where, I launched several production websites in 2002 using Zope (Note: these sites are still in production today). I have familiarity with producing radio stories for broadcast (I produced a handful of stories for the volunteer radio show "B-side"). I was one of the first station-based developers to hack a javascript application for use with the NPR API with the NPR Simile Timeline. I am currently working on the Public Radio Roadtrip.
* I would like to learn more about the DOM and CSS (I'll be honest and admit in some ways my head's still stuck in 1996)
* I would like to learn more about HTML5, json, jquery and ajax
* I'd like to employ excellent coding practices (in particular documentation and unit tests) for python and javascript (using selenium?)
* I'd like to make sure (once and for all, that my app is portable between databases) using a uuid.
* I'd like to learn to create a better in-browser experience for storytelling with audio & images for both content creators and for users
* I'd like to learn more about the journalistic craft of storytelling... in particular with location-based audio
* I'd like to learn more about the craft of storytelling with an emphasis on stories based on historical events (think of the podcast The Memory Palace)
* I'd like to find my voice as a developer / open source evangelist as well as a journalist and public media practitioner
* I'd like to learn more about my audience for an app and for creating a great development experience for them
