To be meaningful, portfolios need to contain work samples or artifacts that show growth and mastery.
What types of artifacts could be used to demonstrate different aspects of learning? Think about this from your own standpoint as a learner and from the standpoint of a person who might be hiring you or evaluating your work.
I spent a couple hours today updating my eportfolio. (Note to self: I need to do this every few months.)
One thing I'm playing with is adding some reflections. For now, I'm using Mahara's journal feature and adding it as a second column to each section. Here's what it looks like. Not sure if I like this format or not for external display, but I like being able to add (and update) these reflections easily.

I really like Karen's reflective statement at the side of her activities. It's a good length, engaging writing and very thoughtful. It gives me a great indications of Karen's personal and professional stances in a number of areas.
I noticed there was a feedback section at the bottom of the page. I'm wondering Karen if you had any ideas on how this could be used. Some thoughts in my mind are
1. Could it be used for giving feedback on the presentation/layout/approach of your e portfolio?
2. Couldit be used to give feedback from those who may have worked/learnt with you to endorse or amplify your reflections or artifacts?
I really find this eportfolio very visually appealing and it makes me want to go deeper and find out more about Karen... To me the theme, colours, layout, content, make a very accessible and personal picture of Karen's personality.

Re: the feedback section, this is a feature of Marahara's journal (which is similar to a blog). You can turn it off I think, but I chose to leave it on. I thought that people who visited could leave feedback, but that it might also be used by me to leave comments later....reflections on reflections. :)
Leah ,makes a really important point which is the need to include evidence of reflection in an eport.
Also Im pretty much the same as Karen with the artifacts and I was thinking about what's missing and what I would like to see if I was on the other side of the table evaluating eports for employment opportunities. Also I've been thinking about the learning that's been happening for me in the Curating our Digital Lives P2pU course. So here's some ideas..
1. evidence of collaboration in which the persons role and contributions is clearly articulated.
2. evidence of an' action plan' for professional learning , activities undertaken, reflections,etc
3. evidence of a philosophical/pedagogical thought piece eg this is who I am, and what I believe
4. evidence of the use of a range of ICT for different purposes

I found this cycle useful for thinking about the different people that could be involved in feedback for Eports. Also I really like the idea of artifacts that document process such as brainstorming, and drafting in writing etc. it would be good to see 'messy' things that reflect how learning has happened for the individual not just the final polished products.
I think this is a good list. I suppose I'm still struggling with the notion that the ePortfolio should/could be a single website rather than a wide range of distributed resources. I like the web-ness of an ePortfolio but I can see that there might be a need at some point to collect these together somewhere (even if it's just a portal to additional resources distributed all over the place).

I think there is much to be said for the interactive, multimedia, multisensory nature of the artifacts you can share via the web. The visual style of the ePortfolio would make a big difference to me as a viewer.
Good ideas. I did add some reflection on DS106 stuff I do. Need to embed more of this. (See previous comments on embedding...)
Just went and did a test of this on Mahara. See "karen as adventurer." I'm going to work on getting some videos in as well.
LIke the list and totally agree about the interactive etc artiifacts however what is a virtual bookshelf? Do you have one? What would go on it?
I'm seeing my digital identity and artifacts as being distributed across the web and an e portfolio as being me curating specific artifacts for a specific purpose at a specific time in my digital journey. Maybe I would create a 'core e portfolio' and then mix and match artifacts when needed. I think the secret lies in an eportfolio as being a dynamic, alive and flexible object.

I use a Web site (Wordpress as a Web site) to organize my information in my portfolio. I think this is a great way to display artifacts because you can include reflections on your artifacts via video, text, or audio. I believe that when we speak to demonstrating our learning, reflection is an important piece that often gets overlooked. Not only is it important for an individual to experience this reflection, it's also helpful for employers to hear about an employee's process. Any medium that supports reflection is a good medium for demonstration.

Jack, I really like the livebinders, which looks like a great curation site. Do you store your other artifacts eg pictures, vids, audio files here too? Mine are all over the place at the moment and Im wondering if you think I could recommend 'one space' wehre I could store stuff?
