This course will become read-only in the near future. Tell us at community.p2pu.org if that is a problem.

Tech Company Field Trip

Attend a field trip with your team to a local technology company. You will learn about what happens inside of a tech company through hands-on activities, meet the company’s top women executives, and mingle with other girls participating in Technovation from nearby schools.

Mentors can arrange a field trip at their own company or find another suitable venue. Teachers can also help to arrange field trips. Combine your efforts by reaching out to other teams in your region -- send them a message on P2PU or add a comment below.

Field trips are best when they are full-day experiences that occur during a week day. At least one teacher or other adult must be present to chaperone students during the field trip.

Planning a field trip? Check out our Field Trip Guidelines.

Please post comments about field trips below.

Virtual Field Trips:

Teams without access to nearby technology companies can check out our "virtual field trips" below or coordinate a virtual field trip with a remote mentor using Skype or G+ videoconferencing.

    Hi

Is completing the hack apps mandotory or it is just a process to get the girls familier to the program?

The tutorials are optional; they help the students learn how to use App Inventor.

Hi everyone, my name is Tahani and I'm excited to meet and work with you all. I want to share about our field trip that we had last week. One of our mentors (thank you Trish!) was gracious enough to host a field trip for the Technovation girls at MassChallenge last week. They got a quick tour of the space and we shared a bit more about Technovation Challeneg. They even had a chance to play with the past winning apps that have been released. We had a panel of 3 young women CEOs come and talk about their companies. The panel was pretty casual and the women took turns sharing from their experiences and the girls loved them! They especially liked hearing about their personal lives and  hobies, and about their strategies of dealing with challenges and stress. Several girls went up to their teachers afterwards and asked them if they can still sign up, and I had a girls tell me that although she was undecided at first, the field trip assured her that she wanted to join Technovation! It was a success and a lot of fun as well smiley

Please share any successes or challenges you are having with field trips!
