I have just finished an R&D project at the University of Birmingham's computer science department, and have a background in creative tech stuff. I've also worked at the BBC in content, development & more strategic roles.
Skills-wise, a mixed bag, leaning towards the techie with bits of content thrown in: done lots of Java (MSc Comp Sci), bits of other languages & am happy to tinker with new ones, can do minor DB fiddling, used Flex/AS3 quite a lot for rapid prototyping, can hack JavaScript/HTML/CSS but I'm not a great front-end designer, done some online journalism/audio/video, bits of graphic design and UX, some user testing etc..
I would like to learn more about how I can use my skills to help shape the future direction of news journalism; what the problems and issues are and how I might contribute to solving them; plus more about possible future career directions in the open source arena.
