Texas Veterans Chapter

This area is dedicated to Texan Veterans looking for new ideas/opportunities on how to reconnect to their communities in a meaningful, practical, and sensible way.

VA Counseling and Readjustment Services

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers a wide range of mental health services in a variety of treatment settings such as:

Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Centers (PRRC): Long-term services for more serious mental illnesses and problems in functioning.

Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs (RRTP): Live-in treatment for a wide range of mental health services (such as PTSD and substance use disorders), or rehabilitative care needs (such as homelessness, job training, and education).

Transitional Work Experience: Work assignments in VA medical centers or community businesses. TWE helps veterans gain work experience while getting therapeutic rehabilitation and preparation for community employment.

Farming Opportunities

Warriors that Farm works with Texas A&M University in order to provide opportunities for veterans through sustainable agriculture. The university provides credit hours upon completion of the program. [1]

Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms, USA is part of a worldwide effort to link visitors with organic farmers, promote an educational exchange, and build a global community conscious of ecological farming practices.

Local Harvest -Why Buy Local? By doing so you'll be helping preserve the environment, and you'll be strengthening your community by investing your food dollar close to home. Only 18 cents of every dollar, when buying at a large supermarket, go to the grower. 82 cents go to various unnecessary middlemen. Cut them out of the picture and buy your food directly from your local farmer.

Cooperative Culture

The Fellowship for Intentional Community (FIC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting "cooperative culture"... “Intentional communities” include ecovillages, cohousing, residential land trusts, income-sharing communes, student co-ops, spiritual communities, and other projects where people live together on the basis of explicit common values... Our passion is promoting cooperative culture and sustainable living. That means providing the information and inspiration for those seeking community, forming communities, struggling with the challenges of community, and those who want to develop a greater sense of community where they are.

Meetup is neighbors getting together to learn something, do something, share something… Meetup is the world's largest network of local groups. Meetup makes it easy for anyone to organize a local group or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face. More than 9,000 groups get together in local communities each day, each one with the goal of improving themselves or their communities.

Meetup's mission is to revitalize local community and help people around the world self-organize. Meetup believes that people can change their personal world, or the whole world, by organizing themselves into groups that are powerful enough to make a difference
