Read the statements below which give some different opinions on the question ‘What is special about spoken language?’ Think about your views on each statement.

Spoken language is more informal than written language.

I agree because when you write something you think about using the right language, spelling and grammar and with spoken language you dont have to worry about things like grammar and are less formal.

You can’t judge spoken language in the same way as written language.

I agree with this also because spoken language is definatly more informal and spontaneous whereas written language is usually more formal and has more thought put into it.

Written language is better than spoken language.

I don't agree with this statement because there are very different and I belive it depends on the writing/language, and you cant just generalise which one is 'better' even though written language is usually much more formal than spoken language so therefore some people may see it as 'better'.

People use language more correctly when they write than when they speak.

Yes this is usually correct because when you write you think more about what your going to say, but when you speak you usually use more slang and are more casual.

Spoken language is easier to understand than written language.

It depends who is speaking or the style of the literature, again it would be hard to generalise.

Spoken language is more lively and spontaneous than written language.

It depends on the type, because there are so many different types of written language and spoken laguage. I think it is a personal opinion but in my opinion I believe spoken language is more lively and spontaneous than written language.

Spoken language is more informal than written language.

Yes, because when you are writing you think more on what to write and tend to use big words, also grammar in your writing. But when you are speaking you don’t have to worry about things like that.

You can’t judge spoken language in the same way as written language

Yes, I agree because with spoken you can tell the way people talk but in written you can’t really tell as much.

Written language is better than spoken language.

No, because spoken can be quicker and get more of a clearer answer as written takes longer and more complicated.

People use language more correctly when they write than when they speak.

Yes, because when you speak you might not say a word correctly, however in written language you use correct language and make more sense of it.

Spoken language is easier to understand than written language.

Yes, because speaking is simple when you write its more formal and complicated

Spoken language is more lively and spontaneous than written language

Yes, because you can exaggerate more when you speak and it make the conversation interesting than when you write.

Spoken language is more informal than written language.

disagree, i believe that writen language is more informal because you have to read the words and know how to read and understand them, but if it is spoken you might regonise the word to if it is said rather than writen.

You can’t judge spoken language in the same way as written language.

i agree, because with spoken you know how the characters are talking to each other, whereas if you were reading a book you wouldnt really know what tone the characters were using.

Written language is better than spoken language.

i disagree, i believe that they both have there different strengths, written language usually gives out more information but a high amount of written language can become tedious, but spoken language is usually less intense but sometimes some of the information goes through one ear and out the other.

People use language more correctly when they write than when they speak.

i disagree, because as the world is using more social networks and texting more, a high amount of people have started to type and write in slang type words to shorten down a word.

Spoken language is easier to understand than written language.

i agree, this is because it helps you to understand a word if you know how to pronounce it, and if a word is read to you, there is a higher chance that you will understand it.

Spoken language is more lively and spontaneous than written language.

i believe that spoken and written language are both as lively as each other, this is because, if someone is reading you a book, you get different tones and attitudes, but if your reading a book in your head, you dont really get the same tones but if your really into a book, your mind can imagen and play out how the characters are saying there lines to each other.

Spoken language is more informal than written language

Yes, i agree with this as lots of people shortended words and talk in a more casual manner, whereas written language needs to be wrote formally so you are able to understand it clearly. Most spoken language is between 2 people or a group of people having an conversation. I believe there is only one exception for when spoken language is formal and this is when the speaker has an audience for example a News reporter talks foramlly to its audience.

You can’t judge spoken language in the same way as written language.

You can't judge spoken language the same as written language because spoken is your own personally way of communication. Everyones is different and the way people talk shows their emotions and feelings. Written language can be analysed and 'worked out' so some extent however spoken is different as you can't exactly know what that person is feeling or saying.

Written language is better than spoken language.

Yes, i believe written language is better then spoken because although you can get emotions through spoken language better you can start to create an image in your head and develope ideas throughout written language. Spoken language can also be hard to understand or grasp as many words are now put into 'slang' and shortended.

People use language more correctly when they write than when they speak.

Yes, i believe this is true because when people speak they don't really think about how they are saying things, if you're use to saying a certain word that may not be in the english vocabulary it doesn't matter that its incorrect. However in written language people tend to use correct language because they want people to understand it and make sense of it

Spoken language is easier to understand than written language.

This depends, i believe that sometimes spoken language can sometimes be more tricky to understand to the simple reason that everything is abbreviated, however it's usually easy to understand the message that is coming across.

Spoken language is more lively and spontaneous than written language.

Yes, i do think that spoken language is more lively than written language because you can emphise and exaggerate  your emotions and this makes the conversation more intresting and exiciting. Whereas in written language you are restricted.

Read the statements below which give some different opinions on the question ‘What is special about spoken language?’ Think about your views on each statement.

Spoken language is more informal than written language.-

yes becasue when wrting in english you tend to use words that you wouldn't use in spoken language. This is due to the progeression of slang or shortened words that we use when speaking but not in english writing

You can’t judge spoken language in the same way as written language.-

yes becasue when you speak you might not think about what you are going to say for a long period of time but when you write you can think about what you are going to write and change it if needed

Written language is better than spoken language.

no but in some cases written language can be  better than spoken written language because it has had more time taken over what if finally put on the page but when you speak you can get a quicker and sometimes simpler or clearer answer

People use language more correctly when they write than when they speak.

yes because of punctuation and when you speak you might not say the word exactly how it is spelt

Spoken language is easier to understand than written language.

yes because you might speak more simply than when you write

Spoken language is more lively and spontaneous than written language.

yes becasue usually you sya the first thing that comes into your head but when you write you can spend more time on perfedcting your work

Spoken language is more informal than written language.

i disagree because when you are speaking you can get words mixed up and say words differentky then when words are written down they can be more formal.

You can’t judge spoken language in the same way as written language.

i agree becuase when you are saying thesse by the tone of your voice and how you enthersise the wat you say it can be almost better then written down becuas ethen you would have to be writting about stage directions and things like that.

Written language is better than spoken language.

i think spoken language is better becuase when you are saying thesse things you can listen to the tone of there voice than instead you would have to imagine it more but that could give the readers a better understanding into the book or play.

People use language more correctly when they write than when they speak.

i agree because in spoken language you can use more slang and you can go of the point but this can help you get better marks in exams.

Spoken language is easier to understand than written language.

i agree with this becuase you can hear them and imagine the story being told but with written language you have to read it and imagine it at the same time and with spoken language it can be easyer to understand.

Spoken language is more lively and spontaneous than written language.

yes this is true becuase you can enthuse what your saying ...

Disagree because written language can include a lot of detail but spoken doesn't always include the same amount of detail, but I also agree because you can understand the emotion of somebody when they are speaking but you cant always when it is written.

Spoken language is more lively and spontaneous than written language.

Agree because spoken language is not always thought about and people sometimes just say what they think whereas in written language can be thought about for a long time and is not also what the person first thought.
