I work in vocational education, teaching business administration. As part of my own interest in education and the impact of technology I recently completed a MOOC and was awarded an 'open badge'. As I had never heard of these before I 'googled' the term and stumbled across P2PU ... so, here I am.
What a great story! I'm so glad that you were able to stumble upon this course, Wendy. I think that you will learn a lot about what opne badges can do for individuals, but I would also like to hear more about what you think pen badges can do for society. Good luck!
I am from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and work provincially in the field of adult literacy, supporting educators in their efforts to use technology more in blended ways to deliver adult literacy training to adults. We use the Moodle platform at my workplace, AlphaPlus, to deliver training and when we upgraded our Moodle site to 2.6+ badges and access to the Open Badges ecosystem became available to us. So I have been learning about badges since August 2013 and recently delivered a webinar to adult educators introducing the open badges concept.
Taking this course is a way for me to learn more and to get to know the P2PU environment and community as well.

Exploring Open Badges as a means to aggregate a variety of formal and informal learning experiences. Looking for information, examples, and ideas on how to collectively leverage badges for multiple stakeholder organizations. I'm also interested in how the metadata that is captured can be utilized for reporting and analysis.
Welcome Tom- I'm not sure that you will find much about the metadata portion in this course, but it will give you a good start. Good luck!
I'm a primary teacher (technology coordinator) and am looking for ways to make learning pathways for students. I'm intrigued by the possibility of using badges to empower students to make choices in their learning. I look forward to learning more about this in hopes of developing a badge system to recognize student learning that can be taken with them to secondary school.

I must admit I am getting a bit confused with getting started with this! I've already posted somewhere on this course site! So again, I am embarking on a research project on using digital badges as a means for students to document soft skills used during their studies. To start this I thought learning about digital badges and earning a badge could be a good start.

Hello all,
I've first heard about badegs about a year ago at a conference, but thought it was a bit "fad-ish" and did not pay much attention at the time. Since then I've seen it grow in acceptance and use. Most recently, I participated in the same conference again, and it was still being used. They even had a pre-conference session disucssing the use of badges. This really piqued my curiosity and attended the session.
Since then I've been trying to find out everything I can about badges and am really glad to have found this course. I'm looking to possibly introduce badges to our community college environment. Maybe starting off with faculty/staff applications (to document professional development, college service, etc.), and then if successful, maybe test it out with students (new student orietnation activities, technology literacy tracking, etc.).
Can't wait to get started!

Hi! I'm excited to have found this course. I have an idea for a digital badge/course but am glad to have these resources to guide me through the process.
I've used badges in Edmodo before for my students and was in the process of creating badges for a classroom I share with a teacher in another country when I stumbled across Open Badges. I was looking for a place to quickly and easily make the graphic for badges (so suggestions would be appreciated.) It is an intriguing idea, so I am giving learning about it a try here.
Currently in the process of creating a badge as part of a University assignment for primary education, have been guided towards this course for guidance on open badges. Looking forward to it!
I am using LibreOffice Writer to track my progress here at p2pu. I find this website wonderful and it totally beats all my concepts in life to create for a non-profit. So if you can't beat em' join em'.
