First Hand Philosophy is a set of classes on the major works of (mostly) Western Thought, running from the Ancient Greeks to Post-Post-Modernism. The shyamalanian twist is that we're going to be reading those texts out loud; from Plato's dialogs to the great lectures of William James and beyond, philosophy comes alive when it becomes audible voice. After a reading session, there will be an equal portion of time dedicated to discussion led by Vernon Carter (MA, UO).
Anyone can follow a course on P2PU. Participating is the next level of engagement. The sign-up is a space where interested individuals can express their interest and background in the topic and commit to working with the rest of the participants. I'm 23 years old and I live in Louisville, Kentucky. I just recently graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in psychology. I will be returning to school to complete my Psy. D. degree in Clinical Child Psychology.
I love to read and currently own more than 1000 books on varying topics in many different languages including English, French, German, Japanese, and Latin.
I love listening to music. My taste in music runs the gamut from classical to Celtic to blues/jazz to metal. I find myself listening to more and more Celtic and classical music, however, as I find that it relaxes me.
I spend a lot of my free time on the internet or reading. As mentioned above, I own many books. In addition to the 1000+ physical books I own, I own a further 300 on my Kindle. They are primarily classics which I love. I also own a vast array of horror novels which are another guilty pleasure of mine.
