I am an educator that loves technology and have national and international experience as an teacher, school administrator, and IT technician/project coordinator. I enjoy the challenge of making complex computer utilization easily understandable. I have a strong desire to provide education, technology, and training to those around the world lacking computer hardware and software knowledge and capability.

What made you interested in this topic?
I see many in developing countries that copy Microsoft software, simply because they can or because they cannot afford the licensing costs. I see Linux as a viable alternative. Although it is used extensively as a server OS, I would like to be a part of a movement that introduces and teaches Linux on the desktop for the technical "have-nots" of the world. I'm hoping this is just the beginning and that someday, I'll pass the LPI exam.
What do you hope to achieve by participating?
Learn and experience more in the Linux world; tutor and/or teach others either as a group or via a Linux user's group.
Are you interested in helping with the course organization?
I wouldn't mind at all but would like to learn my way around this system first. Once I feel more comfortable, I would be happy to help in any way I can.

21 years of Navy/military computer experience, initially with mainframe systems. 15 years of direct IT experience, mainly Windows and security, the last as an IT Manager for a major defense corporation.
Familiar with some *nix flavors: VAX, HP-UX, Solaris, X-Windows, but never had the time or freedom to really gain an appreciation for the overall 'movement' or dig deep into an aspect of it that really interested me. I'm initially interested in RHEL as that seems to be the major player in my industry at present. I'm recently unemployed due to budget cuts and contract cancellations.....so, here I am.
