Anyone can follow a study group on P2PU. Participating is the next level of engagement. The sign-up is a space where interested individuals can express their interest and background in the topic and commit to working with the rest of the participants. Please answer the following set(s) of questions if you want to become a participant or organizer.
This set of signup questions is common to all study groups, courses, ... in P2PU. The answers to these questions will be public once you get accepted.

I am an undergraduate student majoring in Mathematics. I mainly study pure mathematics.
Lately I have been researching Origami and Mathematics with the assistance of Dr. Robert J. Lang. I have given my presentation on this research at two conferences held in Michigan.
When I am not doing math, I am dancing. I am the principal ballerina in my company.
Location: Michigan
Standard Set Answer:I am interested in this topic because I am studying mathematics so naturally I would love to be involved in a course that will broaden my knowledge in mathematics.
By participating I hope to contribute to discussions as well as learn about new topics, or strengthen my understanding of topics that I may have already seen. Also, I look forward to working with others who are interested in these topics.
I am interested in helping with organization, although, since I do not know how much time that would actually take, I cannot make any promises. In the near future I willl be starting a full-time semester at my University as well as working on campus. If it does not require much time, I would be more than happy to be more involved byt helping with organization.

I am a Technology Apprentice at the Woolman Semester School, in northern California. I am currently studying web standards, Python programming, and libre/open souce multimedia production and distribution.
I am dedicated to promoting libre/open source software and web standard technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
I am also very interested in Geospatial tools such as Quantum GIS and GRASS GIS.

Standard Set Answer:I am interested in learning math and working on peer based learning resources.
I hope to find new resources and methods to learn math as well as community support along the way.
I would like to contribute resources to the course documents and discussion.
Bio: I am 54, self employed and live in Spain together with my partner and 3 dogs.
Last year, I received an Honours Open Degree from the Open University UK, an online university, covering Maths and Computing.
Just recently I completed the Javascript101 course at p2pu and am intending to try and facilitate the same course myself by way of giving something back.
I'm a private sort of person, so Maya Incaand is not my real name, I guess you could find it out with a little effort if you were really interested

Standard Set Answer:? ? ? ? (Alt 236-9 on keypad) etc (really in the dark ages now).
At my Uni (an online Uni), there were/are math forums; participation was not that great and I think a major limiting factor was the inability to "post" math (you had to generate a png somehow and paste that). All sorts of varios "text" math, you know, x^2, sum, a_1, etc.
Recently they are moving to Moodle and setting up LaTeX processing within that, too early to say how that will work out, since "posters" will still have to learn LaTeX.
Then there are all the "slow" GUI based possibilities for preparing and posting an image.
I have put Mathjax on a server, 40K files!
I'm quite interested in organizing a math based course (Geometric Algebra for Modellers), wouldn't dream of doing so without a solution to the "posting" problem (not even mentioning the diagrams/pictures!).
I don't want to organize right now, maybe later.

Standard Set Answer:The mathematics of computers and information theory/computability theory have deep philosophical implications when looked at from the right perspective. An understanding of the foundations of computer science also helps developers demystify the tools that they are working with, or at least to appreciate the mysticism involved.
I'd like to help others to understand the mathematics of computers, and perhaps more importantly, to understand the implications it has philosophically and culturally, which will also help me build a deeper understanding of the subject that I've been studying for a few years.
Certainly, a nondeterministic road map would be wonderful.
