This course will become read-only in the near future. Tell us at community.p2pu.org if that is a problem.
Think about why you want to participate in a classroom collaboration.
Are you interested in cultural exchange, writing practice, collaboration, critical thinking, environmental studies, something else?
What specifically do you want your students to do and what outcomes would you like to see?
Post your comments here.

Welcome to our group, Oshane. We are setting up collaborations between school classrooms here. Would your school like to participate?
Thanks for sharing. I have found that blogging and other social networks are a great way to have students collaborate with the real world. Here is a friend's class site that fosters a lot of connections beyond the classroom walls: http://fremdeng.ning.com/
Some schools I work with have policies that prevent this kind of public sharing. When that happens, we try to change policy, but also do projects that are less public as a first step.
That was the idea of this group -- to match up classrooms with similar goals to collaborate on projects. One way I've done this successfully is through Skype. I've been part of one project where students interviewed various adults about their careers and then made podcasts about them. I also was interviewed by students on Skype about alternative energy (I live "off the grid" in a solar house) for a magazine they were creating.
I hope more folks here will post their ideas about projects so that we can get some collaborations going.
Like Clay I would like to encourage some real collaboration and/or peer reflection outside of our school environment. Come on teachers share your experiences and reflections... How do you encourage students to work outside their own closed environments
I would like to develop these ideas as an action research project.
The key component that is missing in my classroom is a venue for real collaboration and peer reflection outside of our small school setting. I LOVE to hear about what other teachers are doing and to share what I am doing as well.
Our students are asked to do "work defense" on a semi-regular basis as well as current event assignments. I think discussing world events with someone from a different part of the world would be most excellent for my students.
