A course to promote a reasoning approach to learning from data.
Statistical literacy is a way of learning to reason from data at a deep level. Older approaches to "statistics" promoted "chugging and plugging", encouraging people to value the ability to select a technique from a menu and correctly apply am arithmetic procedure. Instead, we need people to be able to ask fundamental questions of data, and understand how well they can make decisions based on that data, the way it was collected and the way it may be related to other data.
