I'm interested in how people interact with their infomational and material environments. My main areas of activity are these:
* Empowering ordinary people to have control of information that should rightly be considered our personal property - for example our private communications and information that others have about us, and promoting citizen journalism
* Enabling socially and environmentally reponsible use of materials - for example, helping people to repair old computers, compost their waste materials and avoid motorised transport
* Campaigning for the opening up of information that has been enclosed by corporate and professional elites - for example, I write jargon-free research summaries and facilitate discussion groups for people who feel themselves to have been 'labelled', and I campaign for free public access to scholarly resources
