I am a journalist at Agency for Policy Expertise, Belarus. Also blogging about open data at opendata.by.
In this course I want to learn web-scraping and some basic database management to make and run simple applications. So far I have very little knowledge of programming, including Python.
To get myself busy I'm thinking of coding this analogue Mathematics Competency Test for Journalists into an interactive one like the Statistical numeracy test. presented recently by N. Kayser-Bril. I hope this won't be too difficult but if you know that it isn't going to work or wish to join me - you're more then welcome to comment.
Professionally I'am interested in visualizing crime statistics, poll and government spending data. Geographically it is mostly Belarus, and I'am also planning to expand my interest on to Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
