I received my B.S. in Forest Biology from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in 2000 and M.S. in Information Management in the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University in 2008. Following 6 years of service in the U.S. Navy as an electronic equipment maintenance technician and reactor plant operator on a nuclear submarine and 2 years of experience as a computer support technician, I joined the Living SchoolBook as a Science Field Coordinator.
At the LSB I coordinated several technical projects and activities in support of teaching and learning for the School of Education and K12 environments. I administered the School of Education's instance of Sakai and OSP. I also maintained many of the school's technical resources and serve as Instructional Technology Analyst and Project Manager in support of faculty, teachers, and students.
While I enjoyed working in the School of Education, the position wasn't funded beyond May 2008 (the end date of the grant funding). I was briefly employed by rSmart as a Functional Consultant, but was let go as part of a restructuring effort right after I started. I am a co-founder of Three Canoes a consulting group which offers training, support, technical and implementation services for schools interested in deploying Sakai and OSP.
My current interests include:
The IT role in Higher Ed and K12 systems.
Strategic uses of FOSS to achieve institutional objectives.
The implementation and development of learning management and portfolio systems which provide tools that encourage differentiated instruction and deepen the relationship between teachers and students.
I have a daughter (Grace - 8 years old) and a son (Alex - 5 years old).
