Want to write a novel…in the month of November? Let’s all get ready for it together.

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is in November. It is a fun, fast-paced race to write a novel in 30 days. Participants begin writing on November 1. The goal is to write 50,000 words of a novel by the end of November 30.

This group will have fun with some prep activities to get ready for NaNoWriMo during October.

And once November comes, there's another writing group for the main event here.

posted message: It's Oct. 15. We're halfway through the prep month, and Nov. 1 is coming fast.

How's everyone feeling? Motivated? Reluctant? Excited? Conflicted? All of the above?

I'm same as Karen. I think I got a story here that can span 50k words easily, but 2k words a day sounds... A LOT. Not so much timewise - I wrote a thousand in little less than an hour the other day and that was dialogue - but inspiration-wise. I need to learn to pad my storytelling more. laugh

I feel good about my outline, characters, etc. but I haven't done as much "practice for word count" writing this year as I did last year. I just wrote 1,000 words, and it seemed like a lot. Eek. I need to do more of this in the next two weeks to get "in shape."

I'm also a little worried that last year was pretty easy for me and that I've underplanned for this year as a result. Especially regretting having three trips scheduled for Nov. Hopefully, time on the planes will be productive. (And why did I offer to host T-giving dinner???)

    Oh well, I'll persevere.

I'm feeling really good. The task is daunting. Still, I've worked out a lot of issues in this prep stage. I even have an ending... I had expect this to arrive organically during the writing. (It feels good knowing the ending) I feel a lot more confident than I did earlier this month.

I'll keep doing the prep because it's been so positive, but I'm starting to feel like it's time for writing to begin.

Funny you ask! All of the above for sure. I'm nervous that time is closing in so fast. I'm nervous that my reluctance to prepare is a foreshadowing of the relluctance I'll have to actually sit down and write in November. Trying to really focus this next two weeks to draft a few character sketches and fill in my plot summary. I find that as I do, questions emerge, and so do answers -- just not in copious quantities. And the last thing I want in November is to get stuck, not knowing who a character is or what is coming next!
