od-1. What makes it Open?

Describing Open Data

Content

TEDxWaterloo - Michael Nielsen - Open Science

Task (20min)

Describe what Open Data is, in your own words as you understand it right now. Try to keep your response to 100 words or less. Include your impressions of the benefits of open data and the barriers to participating in it's ecosystem. You don’t have to give a “correct” answer-- you can come back and revise later. If you're a scientist, tailor your response to reflect your specialized interactions with Open Data.

Then, describe your familiarity with Open Data on a 1-5 scale, with 1 meaning you know very little about Open Data and 5 meaning you have expert knowledge of it. Keep note of this "round" number.

(Note: At the end of this module, revisit and revise this definition, reflecting what you’ve learned throughout the process.)
