Self-Directed Learning starts on Youth Voices with each student's Profile Bio and continues regularly, when a student posts his or her detox.
Students' icons are posted beside any Discussion they create. It represents each of them, and their entire Profiles are a link away.
When students detox they are finding their own space of permission. When they make video-, audio-, or written journals, they're experimenting with the invisible parts of a healthy, self-directed mindset. They're learning what it means to be mindful and self-reflective.
Make a video-, audio-, or written jounral entry in the detox section of your profile page on Youth Voices, beginning with your answer to the question:
What have you been doing that's awesome?
There are no rules. All we ask for is a well-intentioned effort and for this to become something you do on a regular, perhaps daily basis. After you finish your detox, you might be interested in the examples here from Monika Hardy's Innovation Lab in Loveland, Colorado and here on Youth Voices.

WHAT I HAVE BEEN DOING THATS AWESOME IS GETTING TO SPEND TIME WITH MY FAMILY & MY PARTNER . WE GOING TO SPEND CHRISTMAS & NEWS YEAR TOGETHER , WHICH IS SO BEAUTIFUL BECAUSE BOTH FAMILY IS GOING TO BE TOGETHER .
What have you been doing that’s awesome?
Something that I’ve been doing that was awesome to me is getting good grades in school, paying bills, know that i have responsibilities to deal with and I push through to do it but i don’t want to.
Right now in life i am working on my high school education so i can start my future as a graduate. All i focus in right now is working ,school and money. Work because you always have to work to learn how to be independent in life. School because you always need a good education or to be around a learning environment to adapt different things that might help you out in life . Money wow, what can i say about money , it is really important to get and earn because to survive money is the thing you need especially if you planning on being independent in the future.
Hey hows it going? i'm glad you decided to stop by. Hope everything's going great. hope all your holidays will go well. i personally love holidays just for the simple fact that I would want to sleep. Sleep all day long. i'm not much of a spirit of holidays just because its kind of died out once you get older. but i still love family. spending time with them is another great option. presents is what i wish to give to everyone. Parents deserve to be spoiled too. i'm hoping that this year will go well. of course things go wrong in life but its always good to be positive as my english teacher once said.
in the holidays i will be performing a lot. Playing my piano and guitar in the subways just to capture the hearts of the people, that my friends is my holiday spirit. you see my joy is not in the gifts and the theme but my holiday is when people feel my music in a way they can relate.
I basically get a holiday every month. the love i have for music is something deep that i can't formally explain to you. its something that you have to experience. My Goal as a musician is to make sure I deposit that experience into the hearts of the people as much as I can and if i'm successful then i get a joy in my heart that feels like its the holidays all over again.
I'm not much of a writer, i'm a talker. I like Reading Romantic literature. I dont read often. I need more practice in my instrument and i need more time. I plan to do much more writing after the new years and i plan to do less talking. i plan to read more genres of literature and read more in general. i plan to practice more on my musical talents and make more time available.
