Bio:
I am an active geographer (mostly GIS-centric) and a budding web dev. guy; hence, I reached out and found this very cool site. I am into the normal stuff: family, friends, food, fishing, frolic, and so on. But in regards to here, I hope to become a better geographer, citizen, and, well, you know....dude.
Location: Auburn, CA - USA
Standard Set Answer:What made me interested in this ?
I am a father, a husband, and a geographer and I am a life learner and it still baffles me that this is a somewhat unique outlook...though lately, not so much as I was diagnosed January 6, 2011 with Asperger's Syndrome at the U.C. Davis M.I.N.D. Institute. Anyway, I would say that generally, the topic is indeed near and dear to mi corozon.
What do I hope to achieve with my participation ?
I am hoping to bridge a generation gap in my own little way (with or without the impetus of this World In Motion thing) by securing myself as a trusted and forward thinking integral member of an orgainization with an extrordinary history; that is, the I.O.O.F. Auburn #7 -- circa 1849.
Anyway, this is where it maybe gets more synergistic (?). I am just a wierdo from Austin, Texas looking for more meaning in my life. You are an organization with credentials, exposure, etc. It would help my case with the old folks (who do indeed want "new blood", but are also very nervous with the prospect). One of my ideas is that this group needs to get "out there" and as such, I have been toying with a web design idea, using one of my old clients tester domains to set up a WP/Goolge Apps portal. And I thought I would spring it on them......uh, at the proper moment. Granted, I'm no Chirs Coyner, but the spirit is willing, nonetheless.
Am I interested in helping with the study/working group organization ?
This question is puzzling to me as I cannot see rational way to answer the two questions above in a seriousness without being interested in helping with the study/working group organization. That said, let me offer a favorite colloquialism of mine: "I hope to shout !"
Let me go a step further and let you in on a little secret: I am already trying to work up a proper cover letter for the "Web Challenge Designer" position that was advertised yesterday. Needless to say, my palms are sweaty and I am not sleeping as well as usual, but all is good.
