This course will become read-only in the near future. Tell us at community.p2pu.org if that is a problem.
We first need to make sure that Python is installed on your Operating System of choice.
Follow the Instructions at http://pytuts.blogspot.com/2011/06/installing-python.html
You can either Install Python 2.x or Python 3.x
Reply to this task with the following information:
Operating System:
Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit
Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit

Exciting things: I'm into game development, open source, and learning!
Hi.

Python 2.7.2+
I'm excited to learn some open-source goodness so I can give something back to the community that made computing awesome and free.
Your Operating System
My favorite: Ubuntu, but I have others.
The version of Python that you have installed (2.x or 3.x)
Python 2.6 & 3.1
Something you are excited to learn about in this class.
I'm excited that participating in this course will give me a newfound pair of rose colored sunglasses, where the python programming language has opened before me like a technicolor dream. - I look forward to contributing to some awesome python based projects, like Ubuntu & Gnome.
Windows 7 x64
3.2.2
I'm excited to learn a new language
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx)
Python 2.6.5
I'm looking forward to learning what this object-oriented business is all about. :)
Python was already installed :)
Debian
2.7
I'd like to be able to do more advance task with python and not only the usual scripts.
Just installed Python 3.1 and 2.6 on both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 operating systems. Currently I have just used Idle for all of these systems. Idle seemsrelatively simple. I have downloaded Eclipse and Bluefish on Ubuntu. Has anyone tried these editors? Goals:
write a card game in Python and see if Python can improve my web design skills. I have just finished reading Invent With Python. It seems to be a good book, especially the part about the Idle editor. Look forward to learning with you.
Win 7, Python 2.6, looking forward to learning a general purpose language.

Python Version:
Something I am excited to learn:
GNU/Linux (Debian wheezy)
~ $ python --version
Python 2.7.2-9
, but also
~ $ python3 --version
Python 3.2.2rc1
Should I use the default in my system (2.x) or start directly with 3.x?
I'd like to understand better some python web applications (like MoinMoin). I'm also very interested in the use of python for GNU/Linux systems administration.
Windows 7 64 bit
Im going to use Python 3.x
Excited to learn a new language
