I'm an independent professional journalist with experience reporting, editing, launching, producing and managing news units, coverage and staff. I have worked in and for local, national and international print, broadcast and online news organizations, in newsrooms and in the field (CBC, Metro International, Toronto Star newspapers, to name a few). Additional experience includes speaking, organization, grassroots, hands-on and executive roles in journalism non-profits, conferences and events (chairman, Canadian Assoc. of Journalists; founding director, Canadian Journalists' Education Foundation, past director John H. McDonald Journalism Foundation). I'm the founder of the Innovate News initiative, which gathers business and news executives, staff, technologists, designers and others to reimagine news and address industry challenges.
