What made you interested in this topic?
As a fairly new individual in the world of academia, whose prior work experience derived from the corporate and non-profit world, I believe in P2PU's mission and the work this organization has set out to accomplish.
What do you hope to achieve by participating?
As a proponent of life-long learning, I hope to achieve a greater sense of understanding and purpose within the academic environment. I also hope to gain insight on the similarities and differences between "school" and "education", since the two are not, in my opinion, mutually exclusive.
Are you interested in helping with the study group organization?
Yes I am interested in assisting with the study group organization because I have a passion for bridging the gap between the baby boomer and millennial generation of learners and educators.

What made you interested in this topic?
I'm currently facilitating a P2PU course with Stian Haklev (Intro to CSCL) and am very interested in participating in an ongoing discussion around 'best practices' for open online courses the likes of which are hosted by P2PU. I'm also a PhD student at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. My doctoral research is focused on the design and development of knowledge building environments and the use of network technologies for teaching and learning history. P2PU provides a fantastic platform for putting some theoretical and pedagogical ideas into practice.

What do you hope to achieve by participating?
I hope to engage in ongoing conversation which can both enrich my understanding of how the P2PU platform and community both embodies and pushes the frontiers of computer-supported collaborative learning in an open, online environment.

Are you interested in helping with the study group organization?
I'd be willing to put my two cents in about whatever issues or concerns arise!

Have been with P2PU from the very beginning, my thoughts about peer-learning, platforms and communities constantly evolving. Also doing a PhD on a related topic. Currently organizing a course on computer-supported collaborative learning, where I get a lot of inspiration for thinking about how learning at P2PU could become more engaging and rewarding. Very interested in thinking about the different facilities for interaction and dialogue on P2PU, and interactions with external tools, can support more meaningful and deeper conversations.

Marisa Ponti
April 13, 2011, 2:44 p.m.
Bio:
Marisa earned recently her Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Gothenburg. Her doctoral thesis is a qualitative study theoretically informed by actor-network theory, aimed at examining how sociotechnical aspects of work organization influence the initiation, development, and conclusion of collaboration between LIS academics and professionals in distributed research projects. Her research interests include the use of technology to support collaboration in learning and research. In particular, she is interested in studying the potential of Web 2.0 to enhance learning and research, and investigating whether this new concept can be applied to science to make research communities more open (also to other groups not traditionally involved in research, such as professionals), and increase the speed in which new knowledge is created and disseminated.
Marisa's academic background is multidisciplinary. She holds an Italian laurea in Sociology from the University of Rome, and a M. Sc. in Information Management from Syracuse University, USA. She participated in several European funded projects related to technology-enhanced learning.
Recently Marisa received a three-month grant to conduct a small exploratory study on a P2PU course and examine how technologies affected the creation of knowledge and social presence.
