Participate

This group studies Baroque art history of Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.

This study group examines the history of art in three of the most important art-producing centers of the seventeenth century. It follows the first two units of a course available at The Saylor Foundation. By the time we finish this course, we will be familiar with the most important art and artists of Western Baroque art.  Familiarity with art history is helpful, but not requried.

The course lasts for four weeks, each week being completed at your own pace. We will respond to the material covered on the course "Activity Wall" and will schedule a weekly chat for more structured discussion time.

posted message: If you're following the suggested schedule outlined in our tasks, you should be about midway through Week Two (Task 3). How are things going? Are there any questions? Concerns? How did you enjoy the Museum Visit? If you'd like to post a condensed version of your writing assignment on this wall, please do so! We can respond to one another here. Otherwise, let the group know your thoughts on the material covered thus far/this week! Also, I'll be available on the chat site from 4:00-5:00 (EST) tomorrow. For those of you are free, please join me and we can discuss live. For those of you who can't make it, please feel free to set up a chat time with the group that works better for you!

    Liz and friends,

My computer is in the shop right now, so I am behind. I am snagging a little time on another computer, but I can't monopolize it. I should be "back in the saddle" in a few days.

I don't know if it's because of my lack of art background or what, but I'm finding it hard to keep up with the suggested schedule. Particularly in relation to the essay, I feel like there are aspects of elements of art, design, etc. that I'd like a better grasp of before I attempt an essay. I don't want to feel like I'm rushing through things and not getting a deep enough understanding. Thus, the lack of posts from me over the past week or so. When I get an essay together in the next couple of days, I'll post it.

Thank you for the update, Kevin! And no worries about keeping up with the schedule...Do what's right for you! Also, please note that the essay only needs to be a few paragraphs and is really just a process for you to solidify what you've learned. Post if you like, but don't feel like you have to. Also, please feel free to voice any questions about the materials on this site. That could certainly help get conversation going!

    Hi Liz, Hi All,

The museum visit was fun - it was nice to spend an hour of a rainy Sydney day in a warm and dry art gallery in Berlin. It was particularly good to have three works to focus on rather than just browsing. I will post my essay later on today.
