Commenting - Notice and Investigate

Analyze other students' arguments and draw your own on conclusions, based on supporting evidence.

Add a comment to a Discussion that you agree or disagree with. Take a position and support it with evidence from an article that you have copied quotes from this week (in your tasks toward earning your Text-Dependent Research Badge). Use this Guide: Quoting a Source in a Comment.

In the Post Comment button here (on P2PU) add a link to your comment on Youth Voices. Do this before you click Yes, I'm done.

We encourage students to break out of these overly-structured "sentence starters" and create your own kinds of response. However, we do ask you to keep in mind the following guidelines:

  1. Speak directly to the student or teacher whose post you are responding to.

  2. Quote from the post or describe specific details (of an image or video).

  3. Relate the work to your own experiences or to another text, image, video, or audio that this one reminds you of.

  4. Be encouraging and generous with your remarks. End on a positive note.

Response to: Armed secutiry gaurds in school

I am in agreement with your post, because the fact that in certain schools there have been massacres where students and teachers have lost their lives when psychos come into those schools and openfire. If security guards were armed they could've put a stop to it instead of waiting for police to arrive and in the meanwhile innocent people are being hurt.
One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is “Others might say that security guards should not carry guns because students may feel unsafe, and other accidents may happen”. This stood out to me because if you're a parent you should know of these massacres that happen in certain schools & should want more protection for your child. Not many other accidents can happen with a security guard carrying a firearm that can't happen with a police officer carrying a firearm. If anything if the students feel unsafe with a security guard carrying a weapon on the side of their waist, like a police officer, then they should have multiple firearms somewhere in the school just to have just in case someone comes in a school open fires. This doesn't happen often but security guards need to be prepared in case it does occur instead of waiting for police officers to arrive, because in the meanwhile people will be hurt.
I do agree with what you quoted from the U.s News “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” One reason i say this is because someone who is willing to put his life on the line to protect others from being harmed is a good person and we need those type of people as security guards in schools.
Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next because this is a topic that should be talked about more. I think that all school security guards should be armed because no one wants another massacre where children and teachers are killed. The children are innocent and i respect teachers because they aren't paid much, most times teachers are teachers because they truly want to help their students succeed otherwise they would use their degrees they've earned in other areas.

    Dear: Evelyn

I am reading about your post sandy hook elementary school shooting wiki response and it is interesting to me because you mention the massacres and what has been done to prevent things like this from happening. Reading your post helps critical thinkers keep in mind what really matters and how as a nation helps

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is when you said “sandy hook comes in second

for being the deadliest school shooting ,its surprising. I think this is true because the last massacre that happen in the school was the first deadliest which was Virginia tech and i remember this occurring. It was a tragedy and everybody was hurt in some type of way. physically and mentally.

Another sentence that i payed attention to was when she said “yet people still don't do anything about it” this stood out for me because an action was taking when this happen and Obama made it clear to the Newtown that he is going to do whatever he can to put Newtown back in place and fix this gun control manner.

I don't agree with you about the nation not doing anything to fix the problem. one reason i say this is because Obama made a speech talking about actually minimizing ammo for gun holders. Also tightening security because it should not be easy for someone to walk in a school armed. The nation is fixing

Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because your writing help me expand the real problems that's going on and what the nation is going though just for gun control. You should elaborate more on this matter so i can understand your thoughts.

    Dear Darya,

I disagree with your article because prostitution is no way to live. there are other ways to make money for example if these girls or men were more into school they wouldn't be going through things like.

A sentence that interest me from your article was "Prostitution should be legalized because it is a type of labor." To me this is no labor if so then selling drugs should also be legalized because these drug dealers are working hard to survive but unfortunately that's not the case.

I enjoyed reading your post and i hope you don't take this comment the wrong way i mean everyone is entitled to an opinion.

    imigrants

    Dear, Alijim

I enjoy reading your article "immigration problems", because i have some family members that are immigrants so i could relate and understand this problems.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is:"It is a major problem because millions of people want to migrate to the U.S to have a better life and a better future", because that's the reality people all over the world leave behind their loved ones behind just to migrate to send money to their families or to better themselves.

I'm learning more about immigrants or immigration policies right now,and in particular what i am wondering is would immigration policies ever change. i was researching this question and started reading a article called "illegal immigrants".

"Our country was built on immigrants, that is why America is such a diverse country", i chose this sentence because is true a lot of immigrants built this country .

"Multiculturalism believe that immigrants are good for our country because they bring over new ideas, and help our economy by opening new businesses."

This quote is just saying that this country is what it is today because immigrants ideas and beliefs.
Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next.
