Standard Set Answer:Education is the beginning of each human life, so I'm feel concern about it, not only for myself but also for everyone to get a better education.
For the moment, I feel insufficiently erudite, no matter in wich area. So by participating I hope to learn a lot.
But I also want to give other what I have myself, despite it is not much than the learning of a 17 years old.
I don't know yet, maybe one day when I will understand better how it works now.
Classical music is an important part of culture to my mind.
So I'd like to understand it better in order to apreciate it better, but also to understand better all kind of music.

Standard Set Answer:1. One of my most developed skills is playing the violin. I plan to major in music performance in the U.S.A. I love classical music and would like to learn more about it.
2. To broaden my knowledge in my field of interest. To be exposed to different, new points of view and to have interesting discussions with people around the globe.
3. Yes. It is a valuable resource and I would love to help.
I am interested in trying out this kind of learning scenario. I'd like to see how effective, fun and engaging the study group set up is in practice. I am also interested in the discussions that this group will facilitate.
Mahler's fifth symphony
Partita in D minor for the Violin - J.S Bach

Standard Set Answer:I was interested in this topic because I practically grew up on classical music. It's always the one form of music I could listen to 24/7. By participating in this topic I hope to be introduced to new composers and orchestral pieces. I'm also interested in helping with the study group, if the help is needed of course.
Knowing that other people appreciate classical music as much as I do is what motivated me. I don't get too many chances discussing it with the people I see everyday. A favorite composer of mine is Gustav Holst. The Planets and A Somerset Rhapsody are some of my favorite pieces from him. I'm also an admirer of Chubert's Swan Song.

I have a career as a software developer that has fuelled interests in other areas by developing software for geophysics and astonomy. In my free time I play piano, volunteer as a Girl Guide leader, and most importantly I am a mother.
Shhhh.... A little secret geeks are not necessarly geeky.
What an awesome idea to have a website dedicated to the masses educating the masses. I'm looking forward to meeting people online and seeing what there is to learn

Standard Set Answer:What made me interested?
I have been playing classical piano since I was 5, because it was something my mother wanted to learn. I have found playing music a great way to escape from the world and great way of exploring the world. I also enjoy listening to music and wish I could afford the time and money to attend more conerts of all genres (except rap).
What I hope to achieve?
To gain a deeper understanding of music. There is much to be learned, just like a good piece of artwork a good piece of music can be interpreted in a multitude of ways. Being involved in this group will also provide a great excuse to listen to music :)
Are interested in helping? Not at this point as I'm over committed in activities at the moment, perhaps in a year or so.

Suggestions?
You can't go wrong with Beethoven. I read a book about the history of the Bach Cello Suites which in turn lead me to listen to them over and over again. It is an interesting collection of music to study.

I'm 23 years old and I live in Louisville, Kentucky. I just recently graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in psychology. I will be returning to school to complete my Psy. D. degree in Clinical Child Psychology.
I love to read and currently own more than 1000 books on varying topics in many different languages including English, French, German, Japanese, and Latin.
I love listening to music. My taste in music runs the gamut from classical to Celtic to blues/jazz to metal. I find myself listening to more and more Celtic and classical music, however, as I find that it relaxes me.
I spend a lot of my free time on the internet or reading. As mentioned above, I own many books. In addition to the 1000+ physical books I own, I own a further 300 on my Kindle. They are primarily classics which I love. I also own a vast array of horror novels which are another guilty pleasure of mine.

As a former violinist, I have developed a love of classical music and would like to learn more about the music which I love. I enjoy listening to it but I don't have much of a background as far as the lives of the individual composers and the history behind why the piece was originally created.
I hope to develop an even deeper appreciation and love for classical music.
Yes, I would be willing to help with group organization.
I was motivated to join the study group because I want to learn more about the music which I have been playing and listening to for years.
Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saens, Holst, and Liszt are among some of my favorites.

Standard Set Answer:I grew up listening to all kinds of music on NPR, from Afro-Pop to Opera, as well as my Dad's varied collection of LPs--from Russian Army Choir to Andean pan pipes. But, my favorite music of all time is Western classical. I played violin in school orchestras, which, though we probably sounded horrible, has given me a life-long love for classical music. I hope to learn more through this group, and most of all, to enjoy sharing music with others.
I enjoy music, especially Western classical music, and it's nice to have an opportunity to interact and discuss it with others. I just finished helping my daughter with a home school course on music history, and I'd like to do more listening, thinking and talking about classical music.
One of my all-time favorite pieces is JS Bach's "Concerto for Two Violins in D Major".

Standard Set Answer:I'm a librarian currently working in a music library as a cataloger, and have a certain amount of topic knowledge and access to resources that I would be happy to share. I'm not as much interested in earning a badge for the course as I am in assisting in whatever small way may be appropriate.
I'm currently engaged in a project which involves cataloging a former faculty member's very large collection of sheet music and scores for guitar- it's an incredibly extensive collection which includes all of the (admittedly small) "classical" canon for guitar, along with a tremendous amount of flamenco and other Spanish and Latin/South American styles.

Standard Set Answer:I unsuccessfully tried reading "The rest is noise" by Alex Ross. I'm hoping that this group will get me going again on my failed attempts to learn more about classical music. I'm a huge Jazz fan, and I know that it takes time to develop appreciation of the subtleties. I'd like to get there with classical music as well.
I am not sure how hard it will be to write about classical music. It might be useful to set up a call once in a while so we can "talk" about it - and develop a vocabulary.
I don't have the bandwitdh to help with organization of the group.
Not sure we'll get there - but I'd also be interested in learning more about classical music that was composed in the last 50 years or so.

I'm interested in Leoš Janáček's Sinfonietta (because of a book I'm currently reading) and Bach.
