What made you interested in this topic?
Multimedia and graphics play an important role in all of education; however, they are often used trivially to make something look more appealing. I'm eager to learn what research says about how to use these elements in a more meaningful way.
Also, I do a lot of work in OER and am interested to apply this research to that work as well.
-
What do you hope to achieve by participating?
To deepen my own understanding of how multimedia can be used to improve learning and to put that into immediate practice.
-
Are you interested in helping with the course organization?
If it's useful
Public Set Answer:
-
What role does multimedia play in your classroom?
I primarily work with teachers, providing professional development and helping to prepare digital learning materials (for blended/online learning, mobile devices, web, etc.). I would say that much of the video and interactive pieces I use serve a strong learning purpose. However, the images I use in various media (PowerPoints, web pages, ebooks, etc.) are probably mostly decorative. I'm interested to think more deeply about this.
-
Do you create your own multimedia, use multimedia made by others or both?
Both
-
What multimedia tools/platforms do you use?
Photoshop, GIMP, Premiere, Windows Movie Maker, PowerPoint, VoiceThread, WordPress, Blackboard, Moodle, Flickr, various wikis

Hello everyone! I'm an online teacher with Bridgewater Academy. Looking forward to connecting with fellow educators!

Standard Set Answer:
Since I teach online, learning a more thorough appreciation for multimedia and graphics will help me touch upon my students' various learning methods. With the ever changing world of technology, it is essential to explore the various tools available to help students!
Public Set Answer:
Teaching online means that multimedia is an essential asset in helping students learn. The majority of multimedia I use comes incorporated within the curriculum to help the students. However, I do make my own PowerPoints in order to help my students via WizIQ study sessions. I tend to overlook using graphics, not to mention I don't use a variety of multimedia despite what is out there and would like to rectify this.

I am an online educator with Bridgewater Academy based in Rock Rapids, Iowa. I am always looking for ways to enhance instructional delivery that will encourage my students to become fully engaged with the curriculum and promote high order thinking processes...an area of deep concern for me as a virtual teacher.
Location: Bridgewater Academy
Standard Set Answer:
I am intereseted in this topic because I am currently creating course introduction videos for each of my classes along with unit review presentations for students. I would like to capture in a few graphics and bulleted points the main concepts and key points that I want students to hone in on that will deepen their understanding of the course content.
I may be interested in helping with course organization once I understand the necessary task requirements.
Public Set Answer:
I believe that multimedia presentations play a vital role in my classroom dynamics as I am a virtual teacher. My lively "lectures" depend on how well I can get concepts and key ideas to my students through the computer screen since they cannot see my gestures or facial expressions.
I use a combination of both my own created content and those I find from others.
I use a multitude of tools and platforms to create and deliver my multimedia content. Here is a short list:
-
MS PowerPoint
-
MS Office
-
Photoshop
-
Jing Video
-
Camtasia
-
Quia
-
UTube and the like
-
Wikispace
-
WizIQ
-

At times we use different learning tools such as lecturing, using slideshows and videos.
I used multimedia supllied by others and rarely create my own, time permitting.
I use Powerpoint, screen capture devices tools.
We have Windows XP platforms.
